11:32 AM, Mark's Room (Day 1/10)

Mark had just woken up after hearing a loud crash downstairs. He hesitantly got out of his bed, taking slow steps out of his room and down the stairs.

Slapping his hand to his face, he let out a sigh.

"Chenle, what did you do?"

The younger boy popped his head up from behind the kitchen counter, letting out a nervous chuckle.

"Um, n-nothing. Everything's fine."

Mark walked down the rest of the stairs and stopped a few feet away from the kitchen.

Chenle tried to subtly slide the broken toaster more behind the counter that he was hiding behind, trying not to make any noise.

Mark formed his lips into a line, "You broke the toaster."

Chenle nodded awkwardly, "I broke the toaster."

The younger slowly got up as he held the toaster in his arms. A nervous smile made its way onto his lips as he shrugged.

"We can fix it, right..?"

"I mean, we can try. It looks pretty screwed up." Chenle replied, looking inside the toaster as his eyes widened.

"Never mind, not fixable."

Mark ran his hands over his face, groaning.

Donghyuck was out at the secret place, he needed time to think. His head was spinning, his arms were throbbing with pain, his mouth tasted like pure blood, and above it all; his mind wouldn't stop running towards Mark.

"What the hell is holding me back?!" The boys voice got louder as he got more into the sentence, ending it off with a loud shout as he threw a rock harshly into the waterfall that rushed down in front of him and into the water.

His body shook, hands reaching up to his hair and gripping it tightly.

It hurt, everything hurt.

Donghyuck started sobbing, the cries letting out every emotion that he kept inside. His body trembled, his throat felt like someone was scratching it from the inside, the pain in his stomach increased as he only sobbed more.

He hated this, he hated all of it. Normally, the boy could hide his feelings well but all of a sudden, things decide not to work out for him anymore.

Was the universe telling him something? Was it trying to show him how much of a coward he is?

The second choice seemed to be the correct solution to him. All he ever did was be a coward, it became part of his life now and it'll probably stay like that.

Donghyuck didn't know why, didn't even want to know why, but he missed Mark. So much.

And that's what made him sob even harder.

Once again, he was a coward. If he didn't leave Mark and his friends, maybe everything would've turned out fine. The sobbing boy remembered that Mark only has nine days left of his month, his head shooting up as he thought about it.

But then he truly looked into it, and realized he didn't matter to Mark anymore.

The feelings he had for the older wouldn't even matter, they don't anymore.

Mark probably only looked at Donghyuck as just a new friend, or someone he could become close with and that's it. Mark wouldn't have time for him, of course he wouldn't.

"Whatever. It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter." He whispered to himself, his voice breaking as more tears threatened to fall and sobs climbed up his throat.

He heard the wind blow, and a few rustling noises through the trees and vines behind him but he didn't care, he really didn't anymore.

Through the vines, Mark walked into the secret place. His eyes immediately scanned the figure he knew oh so well.

"D-donghyuck?" The older's voice came out raspy as if he hadn't talked for years.

The small boy sniffled, turning around and getting up to face Mark; all the bruises that littered his arms and face on display, and Mark couldn't miss any of it, especially the huge gash on his neck and the cut lip that was covered in dried blood.

His bloodshot eyes and tear stained cheek was what made the older take a small step forward.

Mark couldn't say anything, he just stood there in shock.

"Why do you look like you care?" Donghyuck scoffed, a small tear escaping his eye as he quickly wiped it away.

The other looked straight into Donghyuck's eyes, "Who said I didn't?"

The younger gulped, more sobs aching to come out. Scared, he took a step back and ran out of the secret place; no matter how much his body hurt, no matter how much he wanted to scream, he kept running.

Back to his house he went, ignoring his mothers yells, he ran into his room and locked the door, throwing himself onto his bed.

Then, the sobs finally came out.
