MAC.
She looked up at me with those mesmerizing eyes I never grew tired of and smiled shyly. "I'll call you Mac, then."

I couldn't blame her for acting this awkward with me. I mean, things between us got pretty fast. I had a confused look on my face. " What's Mac?"

"What you call a man you don't know his name... "her voice trailed off slowly as she played nervously with the hem of her short dress.

I frowned."You know my name, don't you?"

She pouted, locking her eyes with mine as she talked.  "Yeah but... What do you think people will say of our relationship? You... Me. Us. It'll be -"

"It'll be fine. You're my barbie princess  for as long as you keep us a secret...please. Please" My eyes pleaded with her. I had to make this work.

Her eyes drifted back to the gold chain I just gave her. She caressed the pendant and smiled sadly. "it's weird. So weird. Everything's weird...".

DARKNESS...
It set the mood right. It made him remember her. No, correction, he couldn't remember her... Because he never forgot her. He'd dreamt about her again, signs that he could not forget her. At least, not yet.

His hands were sweating. And his heart was beating too fast, making his chest tight. What the hell was wrong with him? He had done this before and survived.

So why was he afraid this time?

He didn't know what to expect. Everything was happening so fast that he lost track of things.

He fucked up big time. The plan was supposed to simple. Everything was supposed to end that day but his stupidity turned the so-called ending to a much dreaded beginning.

He was stupid. That was the only justification for the huge mess he stirred.

He'd kept almost all the rules. He tried. He was human after all. How on earth was he not supposed to notice such beauty.

He made just one mistake. He fell in love with her.

That would have been acceptable. But he had started  refusing certain orders. The last straw broke when he gave her the chain.

The chain... He told them she stole it. He lied. He'd given it to her, knowing fully the aftermath of his betrayal. As a reminder. As a start to remembering her memories. As a part of him. But of all reasons, he'd given her the chain because that was her only license to life.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

He stared at the caller ID.

D.

The last person he wanted to talk to.

Throwing the phone on the floor, he turned and started the one thing he always did.
Vent his anger.

Hit. Hit. Hit.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Hit. Harder... Hit. Hit. Groan. Pain.

Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. He counted the calls as fear mixed with the pain inside him. Fear that it was D calling. Fear that it wasn't D.

Finally, he bent and picked the phone.

"Boy, you know what will happen if your time runs out?" the thick voice thundered, causing him to freeze.

"No."

"You won't like to know. You broke the oath lover boy. Your last chance to escape death...I don't like waiting," D growled.

He smashed the phone to the floor and balled his fists. What good was his life anyway? He was a monster.

He turned on the lights. He looked around him. The colour of the walls couldn't be seen. He liked it that way.

Pictures. Letters. Blood. All belonged to one person... Karleen.

He let out a frustrating cry. He should have known better than diving blindly into some stupid plan of revenge. He believed them. They came out clean.

The first death... They called it an accident.
The second death... Still an accident.
The third death... That wasn't an accident, it was obvious but his revenge filled brain only understood the seven-lettered word.

The day he finally realized what he was into, was the day he stopped breathing. Yeah, he was more of a living dead.

That day, D had sent for him. They were all seated. They all had glowing smiles as D announced 'his ten-year old project' that would end soon.

"Kill her. You've got just one week." he would never forget the look on their faces as D said those exact words.

He tried. He had one week to kill her. He spent six days warning her. And on the last, he saved her... By sacrificing another.

That was the past. This was now. Casting one long last look at the pleasure room that now turned to torture his whole existence, he walked out. Mentally, he locked his love blinded mind.

But his memories of her managed to creep back into his head, mocking his earlier resolution.

"I love you, Damola." Those were the exact words she said to him, when he dropped her off on September 22.
