Mac.
Her hands dug at the black earth effortlessly as she crawled towards the corner she'd always been. She didn't look up, not when I stopped I'm front of her cell or when I grabbed the bar.
It was a small cell with no ventilation. The only source of light was a dim globe that hung from the ceiling. The walls had uneven letterings on it and bloodstained fingerprints.
"Joshua...come. Please," she yelled softly, pulling at her loosened hair. I didn't miss the deep cuts on her arms from where thick blood trickled down.
"Karleen," I called, hoping for her to turn back and talk to me.
That didn't happen. It hasn't happened for days now. "Karleen," I called, even louder.
Her brows furrowed and her eyes narrowed. "Joshua, I'm waiting."
A tear slid down my cheeks when I saw her hand reach out to the darkness.
"Everything hurts," she whispered.
I bent low and resting my head on the iron bar, I knew everything was my own fault. I pulled strings, played game and now, entangled.
I heard swift footsteps behind me and I turned. It was Slim, the guard.
He had been here since he was a small boy with no confidence. I looked at him now with admiration as I noticed his beards.
"What are they doing to her?"
He gripped his rod tight and hissed. "They're killing her."
I balled my fists and struggled to pull my weight up. I needed to act fast, her situation was worsening.
"All they need now is Joshua. Then, all these would be over. Her pains will be ended, forever and we'll all live forever also..."
The sacarsm in his voice made me question him. "Is something wrong that?"
His smile was too wide to be true. "It's the greatest thing that could ever happen to the human race. Living forever. I heard the UN contacted the Dread. This... will become an international project."
He fixed his gaze on Karleen for a long time and I couldn't miss the sad look that enveloped his once smiling face. "Still, I would never have given her up for such a promising project."
Anger surged through my veins as my eyes dilated, meeting his. "You son of a bitch!"
"Wasn't it enough that you were a trap for the specimen? You shouldn't have lusted after her."
My shoulders slumped in defeat. He's right. Painfully right. But how was it my fault? I was only a young man with raging emotions. I was only trying to explore. Maybe it was her fault for being too clingy, for wanting more and making me pant for more.
"You have no right to speak of me that way. Do you know who I am?!"
His body vibrated in laughter. "You are the Director's bastard, Kelvin. And your mom, the Director's concubine."
My intestines twisted in disgust and I wanted to throw up. I could see everything from childhood again, years before the Director ordered the Coker's to pick me up.
"Kelvin!"
My head shot up. Mother was almost unrecognizable in the black kaftan she wore.
"What are you doing here?" We asked, simultaneously.
She shifted her gaze on Slim and nodded. Seconds later, he disappeared.
"He called me a bastard, Mother."
She lifted her hands and next I felt was a tingling slap on my face. "Rule 1, Kelvin. Never show your weaknesses! Never! Not to me or anyone else! Why are you so dumb and stupid?! Joshua would have made a better son but no, God had to punish me this much!"
My hands hovered on my left cheek and I managed a fake smile. "It was always him over me, why hasn't that changed? Why?"
I blinked back the tears hastily, I would never let her know how much her words hurt me.
Rule number one!
Never show your weaknesses to anyone, not even yourself.
"You wasted all the chances to prove you're better!"
"Not because he's the best in bed? Or because you want your lover so much that you'll sacrifice your own son for him?"
"How dare you?!"
I caught her hands few inches before landing on my face. "Have you tried me on bed? Have you tried loving me too?"
Loquitalakum.
Loquitalakum.
Loquitalakum!
It had to work, now. I let her eyes wander in my already blue eyes and I smiled as she walked towards me, gingerly.
"Why didn't you suggest that before now?" Her lips said before sliding over mine.
"All for the sake of hiding weaknesses," I replied but doubted she could understand.
Tati's words echoed, fortifying me with the confidence I needed to perform this ritual.
"All you have to do is have sex with your mother. But the next day, you must have sex with Karleen, else a bad thing befall you."
"If I do all these, would i get everything I want?"
Tati's smile was evil. "The gods of Tati says you would be more powerful than even the Dread himself."
I returned the kiss, it was worth it. "Stella, let's go to bed."
I'm Kelvin and I'm not lusting after the Master's possession, they're only tools for acquiring the power I've always craved.
