It wasn't until Friday six days after seeing her the first time, that I saw her-all of her-again. I was in my English class at my desk. I glanced out the window, there she was. She was maybe a half mile away. I stood abruptly and knocked over my chair. I raced from the room leaving the shocked stares behind me. It wasn't until I was half way down the hall that I noticed the silence. Even during class time the school is always loud, but now there wasn't a sound.
I peeked in the nearest classroom and the teacher appeared frozen, her mouth agape mid-sentence. Her arm was stretched toward the board.
I spun around at the sound of soft footsteps and froze in fear myself. There she was. An arms length in front of me. The red of her skirt stung my eyes as if it were producing light. her black hair fell gently around her shoulders seeming to float. She stared at me, as still as I. Her green eyes pierced into my soul.
"Why do you run?" Her voice sounded like fairy glass, delicate and piercing. I just stared at her, eyes wide, unable to make a sound, unable to breathe.
She stepped closer and I flinched. Back against the lockers, no escape.
She reached her hand out. I closed my eyes tight. "This is it." I thought, "this is how I die, with a locker handle digging into my ribs."
I felt her hand on my cheek, my involuntary reaction was to put my hand on hers. My body relaxed and I opened my eyes. Suddenly perfectly content. A strange calm took over my body and penetrating into my core. She smiled sweetly. I leaned forward, our lips inching closer. I could practically taste her...
Then she was gone.
