“What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to sound like I have nod clue what she was saying.
“I saw the pictures of the sonogram. I know you’re pregnant.” Josie said.
“But I put them on my bed.” I said, remembering what I did exactly when I got home. “You came in my room!? I told you, no one is allowed in here except me and whoever I give permission to!” I shouted. I was so angry at her for violating my privacy. I sat down on the edge of my bed. Josie closed the door and sat next to me.
“I’m sorry.” She said brushing my chlorine covered hair away from my face. I still haven’t taken a shower. “Tara bought you new pillow cases and asked me to go up to your room and put them on.” I glanced at my pillows and sure enough, there were new pillow cases on them. “So I came up here and I saw an envelope that was from the doctor’s office with today’s date. I was concerned and looked inside. I was shocked to find sonogram pictures of a baby. I put the pictures back inside, put the envelope back on your bed and ran back downstairs.” I stopped her.
“Let me guess, you told Tara. Now I’m gonna be in huge trouble.” I said.
“No. Actually I didn’t. That’s something you and Rocky need to tell her.”
“Do you think I’m a shame to our family.” I asked abruptly. Josie sighed.
“No, I don’t. It was a simple mistake. It happens a lot nowadays. But you couldn’t control that.” I closed my eyes wanting everything to change. My whole life was going to flip around because of something I didn’t plan. “Listen, I support you, no matter what you do, or where you go.”
“I had this perfect vision about how my future was gonna be like. I was gonna fall in love, get married on the beach, have 3 children, be successful in what I do.” I laughed. “I even planned the pets I would have and what their names would be. I planned every single detail of my life, and now it’s not gonna happen because of my stupid mistake.” Josie’s hand rested on my shoulder.
“Sweetie, not all things go as planned. God has a special route for everyone. You just gotta go with it.” I snorted.
“Thanks for the church lesson, Josie.” Josie playfully punched me in the arm.
“It’s true though. I support you. I’ll be there for you and the baby. I love you, sissy.” Josie said, wrapping her arms around me for a hug. I hugged her back.
“I love you, too.”
“So, when are you gonna tell mom and dad?” she asked.
“I don’t know. When dad finds out, he will run over Rocky in his truck. And then he’ll come back for me.” I said. Josie laughed.
“I don’t think he’s that mean. I guess he’ll understand. Dad is a reasonable person. Oh and there is one thing I really want to know.”
“What?”
“Is it a boy or a girl and what are the names that you are thinking about?”
“Josie, that’s two things.”
“Whatever, just tell me.” Josie said eagerly.
“It’s a boy.” I said. Josie squealed.
“I’m gonna be an auntie to a baby boy! Yay! What about the name?”
“I actually didn’t think about a name. I’ve been so busy focused on everything else.” Josie smiled.
“Well when you think about it, I wanna be the first one to hear. Now, you should go take a shower. You smell like chlorine and sweat.” Josie said standing up and walking to the door of my room.
“Gee, thanks.” I said sarcastically.
“Don’t mention it.” Josie winked, exiting my room.
