It’s been a couple of weeks since I found out I was pregnant. School finished and I was happily on summer vacation with my family, friends and my amazing boyfriend, Rocky. It was Tuesday and Rocky was taking me back to the doctor for my monthly appointment and so we can finally find out the gender of the baby. I was nervous, as I usually am, when we arrived at the doctor’s office. I tugged on my shorts and signed it at the front desk. Rocky put his arm around me soon after I sat down.
“Come in with me?” I asked. Rocky smiled.
“Of course.” He answered. I snuggled into him, until my name was called.
“Marie Williams.” The nurse said. I stood up and followed her into a room. I sat down on a chair as Rocky paced quietly around the room waiting for the doctor to come in.
“Marie?” Dr. Stevens said, poking her head into my room before coming all the way in and shutting the door.
“Hi Dr. Stevens. I don’t believe you met my boyfriend, Rocky.” I said. Rocky shook Dr. Stevens’ hand.
“Nice to meet you. Are you the baby’s father?” She asked. Rocky nodded.
“Yeah.”
“Alright, let’s get this sonogram started. Marie, I’m gonna need you to lie down here, and pull up your shirt.” Dr. Stevens said.
“Ok.” I said, hesitantly. I laid down on the bed in the room and lifted my shirt up so my stomach, which wasn’t big yet, was showing. Rocky leaned over next to me, so he could see the screen, and held my hand.
“Are you guys excited to find out the gender of the baby?” Dr. Stevens asked. She spread a clear jelly onto my stomach.
“We’re really excited.” Rocky answered for the both of us. Dr. Stevens started the sonogram. I was surprised to see what looked like a tiny baby. That tiny baby was inside me. That tiny baby was mine and Rocky’s. Rocky looked at me and smiled.
“Marie, look. That’s our baby.” He said. His tone sounded excited.
“Looks like the baby is a boy. Congratulations! You guys are having a baby boy.” Dr. Stevens said. Rocky’s smile widened. I knew he was excited to have a son. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. Dr. Stevens took a couple of pictures before stopping the sonogram. I got up, and gave Rocky the biggest hug ever.
“I’m so excited.” He said, squeezing me. I touched his cheek.
“Me, too.” After getting the pictures and leaving the doctors office, Rocky asked if I wanted to go swimming at his house. Of course I agreed. He double parked in front of my house so I could run in quickly, drop my stuff off, and get my bathing suit. I jogged into my house. Josie was in the living room with Matt.
“Hey, Marie. What you up to?” Josie asked.
“Nothing, just gonna grab my swimsuit. Rocky’s outside. Where’s mom?”
“She went grocery shopping.” Josie said.
“She’ll be back soon.” Matt added. I nodded at went upstairs to retrieve my strapless pink bikini swimsuit and a cover up. I also grabbed my flip flops and dropped the envelope of pictures on my bed. I didn’t bother hiding them because hardly anyone came into my room. I jogged back downstairs, said a quick bye to my sister and brother, and flew outside.
“Got everything you need?” Rocky asked.
“Yup.” I said strapping myself into my seat.
“Ok. Let’s go.”
