I drove to the park and sat down on a bench. I took a deep breath in and let it go. It was summer, but there was still a faint breeze blowing. I thought about what happened in the past 3 months, how I met Rocky, how we feel in love with each other, how Scarlet tried to kill me and then her killing herself. I thought about my fights with Rocky, how I got pregnant and how my dad kicked me out. Then I wondered. All this happened because I feel in love with Rocky. Was all this Rocky’s fault?
No, of course not. You and Rocky love each other. It’s the people’s fault around you that caused all this drama, not Rocky. I sighed. I had no idea what I was gonna do now. I had no chance in moving back in. My dad was furious with me and even more angry at the fact that Rocky beat him up.
“Sweetheart?” I heard someone say. I didn’t notice I closed my eyes. When I opened them, I saw Tara standing there.
“Oh, mom!” I cried out. Tara brought me in her arms.
“I, I,” I stuttered. Tara shushed me.
“Marie, I know about everything that happened. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe your dad did that to you. He took it too far.” She said. I sniffled on her shoulder and then wiped my tears.
“I feel terrible.” I said. Tara rubbed my shoulders.
“Don’t worry, sweetheart. Everything’s gonna get better before you know it.” I was about to say ‘thank you’ when my phone rang. I fished it out of my purse. The caller I.D said Ross. Why is Ross calling me?
“Hello?” I said. “Ross?” I was surprised to hear Nicole’s voice on the other end.
“It’s Nicole.” She sounded panicked.
“Nicole? What’s going on? You sound different. Almost panicked.”
“It’s Rocky. He’s, he’s hurt.” Nicole said. I heard Ross shouting something I couldn’t make out in the background.
“What?! What do you mean he’s hurt?” I said, starting to feel fearful.
“Some guys beat him up. He’s bleeding pretty bad. They’re taking him to the hospital. Hurry!” The phone disconnected. My heart froze again.
“Marie? What’s wrong?” Tara asked, smoothing down my frizzy hair.
“Rocky’s hurt.” I said, looking at the ground. Then I sprang up. “I have to get to the hospital now!” I started running towards my car. I heard Tara’s footsteps behind me.
“Marie! Wait! I’m coming with you!” she shouted. I unlocked my car door and slid inside. Tara got into the passenger seat and put on her seatbelt as I speeded towards the hospital.
