“Ah, Marie, you’re here. Please sit. I have some news for you.” The doctor said. I sat down and folded my hands.
“What is the news about?” I asked. I was really worried.
“It’s about your pregnancy.” The doctor said. She handed me a box of tissues. “Just incase you need them.” Now I was scared. Something must’ve happened to my baby. Oh, no.
“Is there anything wrong with my baby?” I asked, on the verge of tears.
“Well there is nothing wrong,” she started, I sighed in relief. “It’s just that,”
“What? I wanna know what’s the matter with my son.” I said. The doctor smiled. She actually smiled.
“Marie, you’re pregnant with twins. A boy and a girl.” She said. My mouth dropped open.
“What?! But the sonogram. There was only a boy.” I said. I was shocked. Surprised yet excited. I was having twins!
“The girl was underneath the boy. That’s why you were having so much pain. The girl was moving underneath him. Also, she was hidden and that’s why we didn’t see her at first. Congratulations.” The doctor said. Then my dream flashed in my head again. Those were my kids! That wasn’t a dream, it was a message. My babies were telling me to help Rocky and that he needed me.
“Oh my god. Thank you.” I said. I got up and hugged Tara.
“Twins, Marie. You’re blessed. But,” Tara trailed off.
“But, what?”
“Your father is going to be furious. Maybe I should go talk to him.” Tara offered. I shook my head.
“I’ll talk to him.”
“Are you sure? He got really mad the last time.”
“I’m sure.” I said. And I was. I had to tell him. Right now, I didn’t care if he would get even madder at me or Rocky. He cared. He wouldn’t have tried to help Rocky if he didn’t. He was still my dad and I was still his daughter. He is gonna have to face reality one way or another.
After giving Tara and Nicole another hug, I made my way outside in the hallway and into the waiting room where my dad was sitting, his back facing me, alone.
“Dad?” I said. He turned around. He clutched ice to his face, which was black and blue. “We have to talk.”
“Wanna walk?” He asked. I nodded. Inside, I smiled. Every time my dad and I talked when I was little, we would always walk. Then, when we reached the park, he would buy me an ice cream and we would sit down on my favorite bench and count how many birds flew by. It was a distant memory that I always wanted to spark again.
We exited the emergency room and entered the hospital garden. The sky was a firery orange since the sun was setting. Today has been a long day, and it was still not over.
“The doctor told me some important news just now.” I said, keeping my eyes on the ground. I quickly glanced at my dad, who was focused straight ahead.
“Really? And what was it?” He asked. I rubbed my arm and sighed.
“I’m having twins. There was a girl hidden underneath the boy.” I said, holding my breath. My dad stopped and slowly turned around. I braced myself for what happened next.
