They made their way out of the restaurant and had just reached the other side of the street when they heard the sound of an almighty crash. They looked back in time to see the restaurant structure come tumbling down; metal, glass and dust flew everywhere, people shouted and ducked for cover. Quentin shielded Florence from any stray pieces of debris and when they both reappeared, the street was in uproar.Florence knew it wasn't an accident, the building was a solid construction and nothing outside of an earthquake should have brought it down. She surmised it was probably the strange man, most likely with magik and that's why he warned them to leave. The fact that he kept appearing and disappearing was getting on her last nerve, she had a mountain of questions for him and they were nagging to be answered.
"What do we do now?"
Quentin asked and brought her back to the chaos of the street, people were either running from the destruction or trying to investigate it. An alarm sounded somewhere nearby and Florence pulled on Quentin's arm.
"That's to alert the authorities to the incident, we don't want to be interrogated once they get here."
Quentin didn't attempt to argue and they rushed away from the street. A hovering vehicle with yellow and green stripes all over came speeding past them and turned onto the street they'd just left. Florence could just imagine the questions and hysteria that would erupt on the street soon enough. She hurried Quentin and the cats further, they didn't question her behaviour and she was grateful. She'd rather not go into the details of how she knew what the authorities here were like.
The next time they stopped they were in a street filled with shopping outlets and business holdings. It was crowded with people and would easily hide them should anyone come looking for them again.
"We certainly stuck our noses in something, didn't we?" Florence spoke her thoughts out loud while they wound through the crowds.
The cats meowed up at her and Florence was sure they were smiling at her as each one licked their lips in turn.
Quentin caught their actions and his brow furrowed. "We did, but I don't understand what there is for these people to be worried about if they've already covered up the murder?"
Florence arched a brow, she hadn't thought of that. "Maybe they're not sure if we'll stir things up, cause the disappearance to be questioned further."
"Maybe, but that hostess woman seemed pretty sure her boss was powerful enough to do anything he wanted and Mr Romader said his partners could 'fix things'."
Florence scratched her chin, "Well, we have what we needed from them. Let's find this clue and get out of this Region before they catch up with us."
"There's one problem with that, we still don't know where it is."
They'd reached the end of the busy street and turned onto another, this time it was just houses; very high-tech, futuristic looking houses that must cost a small fortune to buy.
They stopped on the corner where a tree offered some cover from the relentless downpour. There was no use running around the streets if they didn't know which direction to go in.
"Couldn't we use some of these gadgets that Agnes gave us to find the clue?"
Florence asked when she felt something metallic clank against the floor after putting her bag down. It was a long shot because she didn't have a clue what they actually did.
Quentin barely took a second to think it over. "No I don't think they'd be of any use when we don't know what to look for in the first place. What about the things Miyah gave you before we left the Den?"
