Skyrah was pulled up with Florence when she jumped up from their seats. She had her walking stick at the ready as always and Skyrah could see that she was itching to use her injured arm."Get behind me," she whispered to Skyrah.
Skyrah did as she was told and they both stared at the things stood in the doorway, their eyes were non-existent but they still grasped in Florence's direction. "Give us the Chosen One."
Quentin slammed the door on them and started dragging furniture until it covered the door. The creatures were banging loudly as Quentin turned to Florence in alarm.
"What do we do? What are they?"
Florence appeared confused but Skyrah could tell there was something else inside. "I... I'm not sure, you called them officers, why?"
"They're dressed in the uniforms worn by the authorities here, I didn't know what else to say. How did they know about you and the Orb?"
"Excuse me, master Harrington?"
The doctor was staring at them with wide eyes and he'd stopped paying any attention to Quentin's brother. Skyrah felt his fear but hers came from a different source. They were now trapped in the room, there was no other way out and that made her heart race and her palms sweat.
"Could you explain just what is happening here?" The doctor asked, he was standing over Quentin's brother now and he looked like he wanted to run away.
"I can't right now, Foster. I need you to take Colin into the bathroom and lock the door, wait there until the noise has died down then find my mother."
The doctor moved quickly for an oldster, he picked Quentin's brother up under his arms and dragged him towards the bathroom. He laid him down and then closed the door; a lock clicked and Skyrah couldn't stop herself from jumping, to which Florence gave her arm a reassuring squeeze.
"What now?" Quentin asked of Florence.
The cats were 'sssing' at the door and the banging was getting louder, Skyrah wanted to put her hands over her ears.
She had grown more and more accustomed to the sights and sounds of the outside world since her rescue. She still had the nightmares and resulting doubts about whether it was all real- or she'd just lost her mind inside the cage.
But being around Florence made it easier. Her uniqueness was something Skyrah knew her imagination couldn't have just made up- she had to be real and that reassured Skyrah.
However, even with her recovery, the banging on the door hurt deep inside her ears; and she could tell from their wincing that it hurt Florence and Quentin, too. Just like the creatures making the noises, the banging didn't seem natural.
"Isn't there a secret passageway or some other way out of here?" Florence asked.
She was staring towards the windows and Skyrah already liked the implication of getting outside that quickly.
"No, we don't have any secret passages and believe me I would know," Quentin responded, his voice short and worried.
Skyrah didn't like thinking about his childhood there, after everything she'd seen and heard so far she could tell it must have been terrible.
"Well, you're not going to like what I have planned then..." Florence started and arched her white eyebrows. "Because we certainly can't just push our way through those things or go around them, they won't be tricked or distracted. "
