A Sassy Companion

Vivian had called us all in for dinner, I didn't see Amber so I tapped Gabe to get some answers, the girl didn't have any answers so I just dropped it.
I then saw Wendy, the person who took Amber with her, I approached her, biting my tongue thinking if I should ask or not.
"She's sleeping, if you are going to ask about Amber." She suddenly said which made me sigh in relief, she then smiled motioning me to sit down and I sat down in between of Ace and Some guy named Mark.
When the food came, which was carried by Wendy and Taiyo.
They served soup, Lasagna and some bake mac. "Before we start, I'll just go give Amber a bowl of soup." Wendy announced, she removed her apron before she picked up a separate bowl then left.
I looked at the bowl of soup in front of me, and the plate of Lasagna and Bake mac. Then I looked at everyone, who was sitting silently in front of their own food. I missed this type of gatherings, the Asylum made us sit with only a few people.

I lifted up my spoon, played with it a little before Wendy entered, she sat down in between Gunther and Vivian. When she sat, everyone began to dig in. I on the other hand didn't dig in just yet, I was thinking too much again. Someone nudge me and I turned to see Mark smiling at me. "You can eat now." He said, his voice soft and kind. I nodded at him, I wasn't still sure if these guys are worth our trust. I mean, they just kidnapped us, but they made up for it by taking care of Amber and letting us stay here... and yet here I am confused on what to feel about them. I stabbed my Lasagna, then took a piece out ready to eat. Maybe it won't be that bad. I took a bite and savored the flavor.

For the whole night, I did nothing but stare at the ceiling. I was roomed in with Mark who had his own spare room. The guy was already asleep, but I couldn't get ahold of mine.
I sighed as I tried to count my way to tiredness, but as time flew by the digital clock already read 4:30 in the morning. I was devastated that I didn't have any sleep, and that this was going to affect my slumber.

I kept blinking, Looking at the clock every three minutes, then at Mark who breathed softly in his sleep. I envied how he could sleep that way, how he could sleep okay... without thinking of his past.
"Staring is rude." His voice snapped me out of my mini trance, his lilac eyes were open and dull. "Are you feeling okay?" He suddenly asks, his eyes looking at mine. "I sense that you aren't, what is wrong?"
I shook my head. "Nothing is. I'm just feeling tired--"
"Obviously, you didn't even sleep." My mouth hung open from his sentence, I grew confused. Was he awake this whole time? "H-How?"

"The bags under your eyes are visible, what's been bothering you?" He shifted, turning to his side to look at me. "Is it because of the asylum? Or, something else?" I grew quiet.
"Or is it because of us?" I looked back at him, Reading his facial expression didn't do much. "N-No, it's nothing like that. I just remember my past." I wasn't honest entirely, but it wasn't all a lie. His eyelids closed, then he parted his lips. "We all have pasts that can change our perspective on things... we all have people who we trust and then end up being hurt, do not worry I have experienced that many times now. You are not alone." His little speech got me thinking, His eyelids didn't open again so I just closed mine. It would be useless to sleep now because later on I'll be up and going again, so I just rested my eyes... Thought about good things...

When morning came, I got up from the bed I shared with Vivian. I stretched, Looked at Ace who was still sleeping and beside her was Melody who too was sleeping. "You're an early bird." I turned my head to the side to see Vivian yawning and stretching.
