The next few weeks were a blur. All the boys at the academy, as usual, scored high on their exams (for the two private academies at WICKED only held the most intelligent children in the entire city), and the day of the fair was fast approaching. The annual fair hosted by the WICKED Academy for Girls was always a huge event. Their headmistress, Ms. Paige, was one of the wealthiest individuals in the city. Thomas and his friends looked forward to the fair, for not only would they have a whole hour with only the girls from the Girls School before the fair opened to the public, but their curfew time had been extended to 2am. The boys could not have been more pleased.
The day came, and everyone was over at the Girls' school. The boys were helping to set up the rides and tables and other such things. Thomas and Minho helped assemble a carnival ride with impressive speed. Both boys seemed to know how the rides assembled with great ease, as each part locked into place as they built it from the bottom up. When they finished a few hours later, they took a break and talked to Newt and Alby. They chatted about the fair and their excitement as Newt's face suddenly slackened,
-
"It's a girl."
-
He stated. The three others turned their heads to find, as Newt had said, a girl in their midst. She was walking through, inspecting one the rides as she tightened the screws near the bottom, mumbling something about inadequate work being done. Thomas stared at her for far too long; she had dark hair, almost black, that seemed to absorb the heat around them. Her eyes were a piercing blue that reminded Thomas of a cat, always watching and calculating. When she finished, she got up, glanced towards the four of them, and smirked. She cocked an eyebrow and turned, walking back into the building. The four boys seemed to unfreeze as soon as she was out of eyesight.
-
"Well shit." Minho said, "first girl comes around and we can't even seem to remember our own names."
It was quite an embarrassing situation for the four of them, but they quickly recovered and continued to work under Headmistress Paige and Headmaster Janson's supervising gazes. Thomas continued to look back at the door in hopes that the girl would return, but she didn't show up for the rest of the afternoon.
-
The students had piled themselves into the mess hall at WICKED'S School for Girls, as they always had. What was different this time is that they were accompanied with another 50 boys from the neighboring school. Teresa had found four of them outside and reported to the girls that most of them were undeniably attractive. It had taken them forever to convince Headmistress Paige to allow the Boy's school to help with the fair, and the results were phenomenal. Now, the mess hall was crowded with 100 students rather than the usual 50 and everyone was talking. Teresa had distanced herself from a few of the boys and was now walking past Brenda, who grabbed her arm.
"Teresa I need a favor."
She looked slightly panicked, and Teresa knew a panicked Brenda was the last thing she wanted to experience tonight. And yet, she followed her friend out of the mess hall to one of the benches ouside,
"It's-do you-you know how I told you about Aris?"
Teresa internally groaned,
'Boy problems.' She thought to herself,
"Yeah, hot, older, great kisser, why?"
"Because he's coming to the fair later!"
"And that's a bad thing?"
"HORRIBLE!"
"I see... May I ask why?"
"Because Thomas is here RIGHT NOW IN THE MESS HALL."
"Oh....OH."
Teresa remembered hearing Brenda say she was over The boy from the other school, and yet she was still dragging the two of them along.
"Alright, so what're you going to do?"
"KEEP THEM BOTH AWAY FROM ME AT ALL COSTS."
Teresa sighed,
"Fair enough. But if you ruin my night because I have to babysit you, you have to clean my part of the dorm for a week."
"Done." She said.
The two girls walked back to the building. Teresa stretched out her hand and went to grab the doorknob. However, she barely touched the knob before a searing pain went through her arm. She gasped and fell back, Brenda screaming as she fell.
"WHAT THE HELL."
Teresa quickly recovered, as Brenda checked her hand.
"You should be alright." She stated, "I think you pulled your arm away in time so the electricity couldn't sever any nerves."
"Good to know." Teresa mumbled.
The girls examined the knob. Now there was a piece of wire circling the knobs, and there was electricity running through them, electrocuting anyone who tried to grab the knob.
"That's weird. It wasn't like this when we left," Teresa said.
"Well no shit sherlock," Brenda replied, in a teasing manner.
The two of them walked to the other doors and found similar contraptions attached to each of the doorways into the building.
"Ugh, we've been completely locked out." Brenda complained.
Teresa noticed how all the windows were shut too, with locks that could only be opened from the outside. She suddenly heard loud screams coming from inside the building.
"No." She said, her voice wavering, "everyone else has been locked in."
