Kyle's POV
-
I slowly backed down the stairs to give Jake and Simon privacy. My heart skipped several beats as I got away from the situation.

Dammit.

I just wanted to tell Simon how sorry I am for what he went through. I want him to know that I will always be there for him and Jakob. They are some of the best people I know. I care so much for those boys.

Crystal laughed with the other two love birds in the house, Toby and Jackson. They recently confessed their relationship to me, although anyone with eyes can see that they're dating.

I planted myself next to Crystal, who was now happily painting Toby's nails a deep midnight blue. I frown when I see it's almost out.

Note to self: buy Crystal a new bottle of blue nail polish.

Crystal loves nail polish. She has almost every color under the sun, and loves to test them out on people. She also loves my friends so I'm sure she's having a good time. I know she wanted to spend alone time with me today, but I couldn't desert Jakob. He needs me right now.

"Is everything okay with those brothers?" Jackson asks, comfortably linking his hand with Toby now that said brothers are gone.

They worry that Jake and Simon won't approve of their relationship. I tried to suppress my laugh at that when they told me. The Roberts are the last people to judge someone else's relationship.

"Yeah, I think so." I sigh with a small smile.

Crystal sends me a knowing look. Everything okay?

I tell Crystal everything. She knows about Simon and Jake. She knows about what happened to Simon, and she knows about everything else in my life. I trust Crystal more than I trust anyone else. She's my best friend in the whole wide world. She's my rock. My comfort. A sense of reason, and the light on a dark day.

I nod back, biting my lip as I catch sight of the lace strap showing on her shoulder. I think she's wearing her sexy black bra. It's my personal favorite, which she knows. Damn, she's out here testing me.

"Done," she beams at Toby who holds out his hands proudly.

"Thanks Crys! These are sexy as fuck. Maybe Jackson will actually want to kiss me now."

Jackson rolls his eyes and plants a quick kiss on Toby's waiting lips. He smiles smugly afterwards while Jackson rests his head on his shoulder.

Jackson continues his thought. "Well, I'm worried about them. Jake has never been so distant from us and Simon's always been shy, but he almost seems worse than normal."

I open my mouth, unsure of how to answer when Crystal recognizes my struggle. She quickly jumps up, tossing her gorgeous brown curls over her shoulder.

"Maybe we'll all feel better if we go outside and get some fresh air."

I stand as well, wrapping my arm around her waist as I kiss the lace strap on her shoulder. "I agree."

Toby and Jackson are oblivious to the obvious change of conversation. They hop up, eager to go outside and probably dork around as usual.

As everyone goes ahead, I quickly text Jake.

Me: Everything ok?

Crystal loyally waits for me at the door, linking our hands together once I'm within range.

"Is Simon okay?"

"I don't know. He found out that Jake and I know about Aaron. He kind of scared me; he said Aaron would kill us if we went after him."

Crystal quickly shakes her head. "Please don't get involved with Aaron. I think you guys should listen to Simon. He knows what he's talking about."

I suck in a long breath of air. "I know, Crystal. But Jake is my best friend. I can't let him do it alone- he needs me."

Crystal stops me, ocean blue eyes drowning in clear worry. "I love Jake, but going after Aaron is a terrible idea. One that I refuse to let you be a part of. If he wants to risk it, fine. But I forbid you."

I smile softly and kiss her forehead. I know Crystal's heart is in the right place. She just wants to protect me, but I want to protect Jakob. He's almost like my little brother. That includes Simon as well.

"Watch it you big oaf!" Jackson wheezes as Toby squeezes him tightly. Toby looks like a big, happy kitty hugging his little baby mouse.

"You know you like my special hugs." He murmurs to Jack contentedly.

"I want a special hug," Crystal whispers, purring in my ear as her hand travels down south. Shuddering, I capture it before it can go too far.

"Later princess, I promise."

"Fine. I'll go find someone else," She quickly gives me a kiss before running over to the other two dorks and joining in on their hug. My heart nearly explodes at the happy sound of her giggle.

Jake never texted me back. I better go see if everything is okay. Jeez, I feel like an overprotective dad sometimes.

I almost make it halfway up the stairs when I hear it.

"Ah, J-Jake, h-harder..."
