It didn't seem to matter what universe they were in; the Winchesters were cursed. They never caught a break. And if they did, it wouldn't last. Born Winchesters, Winchesters by association, Winchesters by marriage...

Take Jessica Moore, for instance: she had a child with, and was about to be proposed to by, Sam Winchester. Not at that very moment, but soon. In fact, that's what he'd been dreaming about when his eyes opened and a quick breath filled his lungs.

He rolled onto his side as Jessica threw off the covers and sat up. It was her turn.

"I'm comin', baby," she reassured softly as the child continued to cry.

Usually, she was hungry or lonely or needed a diaper change. Not tonight. It wasn't until Jessica saw the shadow being cast into the hallway by the light of the full moon that she understood why Briana was crying.

"GET AWAY FROM HER!"

Alarmed, Sam bolted from the bed and down the hall, but when he reached his daughter's room, nothing appeared to be wrong. "Jess?" he asked. Maybe he had dreamed it.

The child, upon hearing his voice, quieted if only a little.

"Hey, hon," he crossed the hardwood to the crib and let the baby wrap her hand around his index finger. "What's the matter?" He smiled at her. "Huh? What's the matter?"

She gurgled at him. His smile stretched to a grin.

It fell as a drop of something red smacked the back of his hand. His combat instincts returned, and he jerked his head back to look at the ceiling.

"JESS! NO!"

Everything was on fire.
