I woke up, soaking in sweat and I could feel my heart beating loud and fast in my chest. I reached out for my happy pillow, but it had fallen down from the bed through the night. I sat up and wrapped my arms around my legs and squeezed my face into my knees and sobbed uncontrollably into them.
Suddenly I head footsteps from the hallway and I tried to stop my sobbing, but I couldn't. I shut my eyes. Tried to hold back, but the more I tried to resist, the more tears filled my eyes and I burst out crying. I heard someone's voice out in the hallway. I recognized that voice.. Jim..
"Hey.. are you okay in there? (Y/N?) Hello?!"
I cried so much I couldn't answer him so at the end he just walked in and turned in the little light on my drawer and walked over to me. He sat on the edge of the bed and waited patiently for me to get my shit together.
I finally looked up and saw how his hazel brown eyes looked at me with sorrow.
"What's wrong?" He asked with a low voice. "Why are you crying in the middle of the night?"
"I-I had a nightmare.."
"Oh.." he said. "What was it about?"
"My mom..."
He looked confused at me and let his hand rub my knee gently.
"What's with your mom?"
"I don't know.." I snowed. "She just stood there and.. suddenly disappeared.. I had the feeling I would never see her again and tha-that I would be alone for ever.. loneliness filled my whole body and everything just became.. b-"
"Black.." He interrupted. "I know that feeling.."
We sat there in total silence for a couple of minutes.
"But don't worry kid.. it was just a bad dream. Your mom will wait for you when you get home, I'll assure you that."
I smiled and rubbed my palms on my cheeks to remove the tears.
"Have you had the same dream about your mom?" I asked him.
He nodded.
"Sorry.."
"Don't be, she's okay at home."
I smiled happily at him.
"Are you Okay now?" He asked me and clapped gently my hand.
"Maybe.."
"Want me to stay in here till you fall asleep?"
"That's just creepy," I teased and we chuckled. "But yeah.."
"Then give some space," he said and without warning squeezed himself down next to me and wrapped his arm under my neck.
Nope. I can't sleep like this. No way. Too awkward.
"Just get yourself comfortable," he suddenly said to me. "I won't try anything so don't worry."
I giggled and turned around to face him. He looked down at me and I wanted to kiss him so hard, but if I did, what would it mean for out friendship? I turned away again and wrapped my arm around his stomach.
"Goodnight Jim," I said to him.
"Goodnight, (Y/N)."
The sound of his heartbeat led me into a deep sleep and no nightmares. Just him and me. Alone.
