Chapter 4: Jake
"Turn right." My GPS said distracting me from my thoughts. I did as it instructed and came into Celeste's neighborhood. It was Friday already and I was extremely nervous. I really liked Celeste and we had talked non-stop for the last three days and she was trying to get me to tell her where I was taking her but I didn't budge.
For some reason, I was feeling really guilty. I really like Celeste and I didn't like lying to her. I told her and her brother that my name was Jake Ryan although it's actually Jake Charson. I wanted her to know the real me, not the me that everyone wanted me to be. I hated being a Charson in reality, I wanted to be me and not have to live up to expectations.
I turned up the volume of the song that was playing from my favorite CD, I loved Marvin Gaye and my favorite song by him was on now. "Let's get it on baby." I sang along with him as I pulled up to the front of her house. I got out of the car and kept it running as I rang the doorbell and ran my fingers through my hair. I was dressed in a salmon colored button down shirt that was tucked into my black pants and a white belt. I put more effort than I ever did, I wanted to impress her for some reason. I never really did that for a girl I liked.
She opened the door and smiled at me, I couldn't help the look that came onto my face as I looked at how stunning she looked. "You look stunning." I said nervously, I was already nervous and the date hadn't even started yet. She was wearing a beautiful strapless white dress that ended at her knees and she wore these sandals that looked like something Gladiators would wear and her hair was the way it always was, straight and shiny. "Thanks..." She said getting a shy look on her face and I knew I was making her blush just like she was making me. "Ready to head out?" I asked and she nodded and I led her to my car and opened the door for her and closed the door after she got in.
I took in a breath and tried to calm down as I got in the driver's seat. "I heard it through the grapevine..." Celeste was singing along with Marvin Gaye by the time I got in my seat comfortably and pulled on my seat belt. "I didn't know you were into oldies." She said and I shrugged, "I like all types of music..." I said showing her all the other CD's in my car, she flipped through and gasped when she came to one. "Nina Simone! I love her stuff." She said and I let her pop it in and we sang along to the first song on the CD I put together of my favorite songs by her.
I drove to the really nice restaurant that I had made reservations at for us, I could only hope I didn't make a fool of myself which was bound to happen from how nervous I already was. When we arrived, I got out and opened the door for her and we walked towards the restaurant. I brought her to a fancy but not too fancy restaurant, I didn't want to look like a rich snob or rich at all. "I saved up all week for this." I lied and she smiled sweetly at me. "You didn't have to..." She said and I shook my head, "I wanted to." I answered as we reached the front door and I swung it open and watched her as she walked in.
"Welcome...Do y'all have a reservation?" The older woman behind the small desk asked and I nodded, "Jake and Celeste." I said and she typed up on her computer and then nodded. "Follow me." She said and we followed her to a nice two seat table in the back part of the restaurant. "Thank you." I said and she smile at me before going back to her post.
I pulled out Celeste's chair and pushed it in as she sat down before going to my side and sitting. "Want some water?" I asked her nervously as I grabbed the small pitcher filled with water and poured some into my cup. "Yeah." She said while looking over the menu intensely. Damn, how did she look so hot looking at a menu?
I lost track of what I was doing and I overfilled her cup and water went sliding down the table and into her lap. She gasped and looked at me and I snapped out of it and stopped pouring water. "Sorry! I-I-" I began but cut myself off not knowing what to say, I quickly grabbed some napkins and went over to where she was and I cleaned up the spilled water on the table and I patted a wad of napkins over her slightly exposed, wet thighs.
