Before anyone could say anything especially stupid, the smallest person in the room came to the forefront of the battle to act as peacemaker.

Cress stepped out from behind Thorne and spoke up for herself. "Captain Thorne may be a bit brash at times, but he is the most loyal person I know. There isn't one person Thorne has befriended that he does not still care about to this day."

Begrudgingly, Scarlet agreed. "It's true. I hadn't seen Thorne for a long time before he came to me for this trip. Even after I left his ship, he made sure I was okay."

The mermaid smiled at that. "And either way, like you said. I'm a mermaid. All mermaids despise Lunars. We may not like humans in general, but our hatred for Levana outweighs that for any normal human."

Jacin crossed his arms over his chest and grumbled to himself. Still unconvinced.

As if there was no other way, Cress abandoned Thorne's protection and only stopped when she was a few feet from Jacin. He towered over her, but now, she radiated confidence.

"And I know I'm not the only one here with a dark side," she said. Finally, she had Jacin's undivided attention. "Playing the part of an evil person is different from being one."

Though her cheeks were flaming red, her bravery was just as visible. So was Jacin's obvious detestation. He didn't retort, he did not bicker. He simply glared at her, and she refused to break under his stare.

Scarlet broke the tension by declaring, "If we are going to recover the Codex, we should probably know where it is."

Cress turned away from Jacin's glare, which didn't stop him continuing. "It's in the Governor's library in Port Royal. It has been for a while." She looked to Kai. "I think you've read it without knowing."

Everyone moved their eyes to Kai. Cinder felt anger at this, as moments ago they were accusing him of being a spy. Now, they were all looking to him for information and answers.

How typical of greedy pirates.

He was still weak from the interrogation, and only managed to mumble, "I know which book you're talking about. There was one part I read that was more prominent than the rest of the text."

"What was it?" Wolf questioned.

Great, Cinder thought. Another interrogation.

"It was some kind of prophecy. It... I think it was about Cinder and Levana."

If you ever learn about a supposed destiny that you are to be a part of, hopefully you act like Cinder did and freak out a little. This would be to make Cinder feel like less of an idiot.

"A prophecy?" she half laughed. "About me? Yeah, that's totally sounds right. As if there would be a totally unknown prophecy that predicted I would do something that related to Levana."

The rest of the group did not share in her humor. If nothing else had diffused the situation before, that surely did.

Thorne countered, "It's not that weird, Cinder."

Sarcastically, Cinder replied, "Really? I supposed you know why then? Because I have no idea."

"Well, for one, you're the lost princess of Luna. And that means the throne Levana has is rightfully yours. Two, she killed your mother to get said throne. Three, Levana is an evil tyrant and you are a rebellious spitfire that hates people who abuse their power. And finally, Levana is the witch that is trying to marry your boyfriend."
