Freedom

One step, two step, three step, four.

Walking towards this treacherous war.

Gun in hand. Grenade in tow.

Dust in the air, so far to go.

When the sun goes down we hide beneath a tree,  camoflaged, hoping not to be seen.

The silence makes me loose my mind, when all I want is to make it out alive.

Every day out here I wonder why, why I thought this would ease my mind.

Fight a war, help fellow comrades out, because freedom doesn't just come about.

These are things we are told, this is supposed to be worth my soul.

We silence ourselves so we don't scream.

We would loose our minds if it weren't for the things.

The things we look forward to when we leave, when we get home, and the things we believe.

Life is fragile and we don't ever see, just how precious life can be.

So, until the time comes I will sit here and believe,  that I fight this war because freedom doesn't come free.

Bullets blazing through the air, I take one last gasp for air, freedom rings!
