Hey guys! Just a heads up, for the sake of the story, I'm gonna have Max wake up and sit with Chris instead of Gordie, just because this will be when they confess their feelings to each other and fall in love <3 Also, it might get a little bit *saucy* but not too much, so if you're uncomfortable with that you can just skip it. Anyway, I hope you're not upset with the slight change and enjoy!

It was maybe an hour or so later, and a loud howl jumped all five out of their sleeping bags.

"Oh my God!" Vern exclaimed.

"It's the Brower kid," Teddy said, "It's his ghost out walking in the woods."

"What the hell is that?!" Max shouted. Without thinking, she had grasped for Chris' hand, which had his gun in the other.

"What is it, Chris?" Gordie asked, walking over to him.

"Maybe it's coyotes," Chris replied, thinking logically.

"It sounds like a woman screaming," Gordie said, his eyes wide and scanning the woods rapidly.

"It's not coyotes, it's his ghost," Teddy said getting up too.

"Oh, don't say that," Vern said, his voice trembling. Teddy started creeping towards the woods, to see what was there.

"Hey Teddy, sit down," Chris ordered.

"I'm gonna go look for it. I wanna see his ghost!" Teddy said, almost submerged in the forest. Just before he got in, the howling started again, even louder this time, and Teddy ran back to his sleeping bag.

"Maybe we should stand guard," Vern suggested.

"That sounds like a good idea," Max said, still trembling with fear.

"Here, give me the gun. I'll take first watch," Teddy offered, "And Max, while I'm not using it, you can sleep in my sleeping bag."

"Thanks Ted," Max smiled, and went over to his sleeping bag. Once everyone had calmed down, they all went back to their sleeping bags and tried to sleep. It was hard, because Teddy kept saying things to himself.

"Twenty three hundred hours, Corporal Teddy Duchamp stands guard. No sign of the enemy, the fort is secure."

"Shut up Teddy, and keep your eyes peeled," Chris said, still half asleep. Teddy stayed quiet for a moment, until he pretended to play the trumpet, waking everyone up.

"Come on Teddy, cut it out!"

"Shut up Teddy!"

"We're trying to sleep!"  Teddy stopped, looked over at the four, then rested his head on the tree again.

"The dog faces rested easy, in the knowledge that Corporal Teddy Duchamp, was protecting all."

"Don't make me come over there and shut you up myself, Teddy," Max grumbled, her face stuffed in her arms.

When it was Vern's turn, Max got out of Teddy's sleeping bag and slept in Vern's while he was on guard. Every little thing that made noise scared him. Crickets, owls, frogs, you name it. He pointed the gun in any direction that made noise. He circled the tree countless times, he circled it so much he got dizzy and had to sit down.

Then it was Chris' turn. As you probably know by now, when it was Chris's turn, Max moved from Vern's sleeping bag to Chris'. Chris was the most relaxed. he just sat by the tree, his knees up to his chest, watching everything around him. He caught himself looking over at Max numerous times, it was when he could look at her the most without getting caught.
