Exactly one month ago I gave birth to our baby boy Raymond Kavanaugh and today is the first day I'll be leaving him with a babysitter over night. It's too soon. It kills me to even leave him to go to work for a few hours everyday, leaving him alone over night feels practically impossible. Leaving him for work was a necessity so I had to get over it, but leaving him now is purely for my own benefit. It's Kate and I's first anniversary as a married couple and she's got big plans for us to celebrate. None of those plans involve us toting around a baby. She's arranged for us to go back to the bar we had our first kiss in the night we went out celebrating our freedom from finals. Then after we're staying in a hotel room to get a night away just the two of us. I clutch my baby boy tightly in our last remaining hours before Kate and I are set to leave. Kate's still in the bathroom getting ready, I finished my preparations first. With Kate's help my hair has been flat ironed to a perfectly straight style and held back with a few bobby pins. She also did my makeup for me, smoky eyes and pink lipstick. She seems to work much faster on me than on herself. It takes her at least forty five minutes to do her own full face makeup but nearly half that time to do mine. There's a knock at the door and I stand to open it, knowing it's our babysitter. I open the door cautiously, struggling to fully support Raymond in one arm. "Hey!" I greet Sarah, our babysitter for the night, and Kate's co-worker. "Hey, Ana. Nice outfit." She compliments, her eyes landing on the silver cocktail dress I've put on for tonight's celebration. "Thanks! Come on in." I step out of the way to let her through the doorway and she walks on in. "Kate are you almost ready? Sarah's here!" I yell to Kate who's still in the bathroom. "Yep! Give me one more minute!" Kate yells and I roll my eyes. It won't just be one more minute, it never is. Sarah laughs, seeing my eye roll. "I can hold him if you want." She offers, opening her arms to Raymond. "Sure." I hand her the baby. Technically her job doesn't start until we actually leave, but I need to go check on Kate if we ever want to get out of here at a decent hour. I head into the bathroom to see what's keeping Kate. "I said I was coming, Ana." Kate says, talking at my reflection in the mirror as she applies her lipstick. "Well, what's been taking you so long?" I ask. Kate sighs. "I've changed my lipstick color four times now. Which one looks better with the dress?" She turns to me, holding up three lipstick tubes. "The one you have on right now." I say, hoping to speed her along. She groans. "Are you sure?" She looks herself over again in the mirror. "Yes, I'm sure. You look amazing in every color of lipstick, Kate." I wrap my arms around her and lean my head on her shoulder, twisting to kiss her neck. "I just want to go out with my hot wife sometime before midnight, so can we please get going?" I plead and she smiles at my compliment. "Alright, fine. Let's go." We grab our bags and kiss our son goodbye, then we're off.
The bar is already packed by the time we get there. There's drunk people everywhere, mostly college students like we once were. It's loud and crowded and instantly makes me want to run home and curl up in bed. That is, until we get our second round of drinks going. We throw back four more rounds of shots, and by our sixth shot in we're both buzzed enough to head out to the dance floor. Kate clings on my arm as I walk her out to the center where everyone else has gathered dancing. People bump into us from all angles, but I ignore them. I only want to focus on her. The lights bounce off her teeth when she smiles and runs her fingers through her hair. It's blinding. She places one hand on each of my shoulders and grinds against me front to front, both of us swaying our hips to the beat of the blaring music. Her perfect body feels so right against mine, so soft and warm. I want her even closer, as close as possible. I want no space between us. She turns around and presses her backside to me as I hold her hips. We dance together for a few more songs. Her back against my front, her front against my front, our eyes connecting, faces inches from each other. She forces me to turn around and I lean back against her, my head resting on her shoulder as she holds me. She kisses my lips, then down my jaw, then my neck. I moan, but the sound is lost in the music. We get more shots back at the table, three more shots each to be exact. Then we go dance again and repeat. Both of us are far passed being just buzzed after that. We have to get some air. We stumble outside together, holding hands for support. "Shit, I can barely walk." I mutter, blinking hard to try to snap myself out of the alcohol induced haze I've put myself in. "Yeah, I can see that." Kate laughs. She still definitely can hold her liquor better than me. All I can do is hope I don't throw up, as I try to steady myself outside in the fresh air. "Wanna go to our hotel room now? We've still got big plans for tonight." Kate says, her lips turned up in a smirk. "I might need some coffee first." I warn her, knowing there's a good chance that I'll blackout if I don't get something in my system to help sober me up. "God, Ana. You're so cute!" She exclaims with a laugh. Then she places her hands on each of my shoulders and looks up into my eyes. She kisses me and my heart flutters, reminding me of our first kiss right in this exact spot.
