It wasn't long until the three of you were back at the desks. Hank was sulking at his table with his arms crossed and his eyes glued to the desk. Connor stands awkwardly next to the man, looking down at him
"It's an honour to be working with you Lieutenant, with you as well Sergent." He glances at you before turning his full attention back to Hank. "I'm sure we'll make a great team." He smiles at the two of you. It looks weird and unnatural, not surprising to you. "Now that we're all partners it would be great to get to know you both better." Hank doesn't reply.
"Yeah, sure Connor." You decide to answer. It was really awkward, the tension in the air was so thick it could be cut with a knife.
He looks to be at a loss for words, Hanks uninviting aura pushing Connor away. "Uh... Is there a desk anywhere I could use?" He questions.
"Nobody's using that one." He says short and curt, pointing to the unoccupied desk in front of himself, before returning his arm to its previous position crossed in front of him.
Connor walks over to the empty desk and takes a seat, the lieutenant finally deciding to do some work when his eyes shift over to his computer. Your eyes move back and forth from Hank and Connor. The android was very persistent... It was trying really hard. You guessed it was to have a better relationship to have a smooth investigation. Or maybe he just wants to be friends, which you thought was unlikely.
"You have a dog... Right?" Connor asks Hank. You knew that he certainly does have a dog. His name is Sumo, and you adore him. How did he manage to figure that one out?
Hank pulls a face. "How do you know that..?" He asks in a weirded out voice.
"The dog hairs on your chair..." Connor says slowly. You place a hand over your mouth, trying to hide your smile. This whole situation was awkward but very funny.
He continues. "I like dogs. What's your dog's name?" This causes you to stifle a laugh, no normal person talks like this... What the heck?
"What's it to ya?" Hanks says coldly. This makes the android look down, almost sadly. You felt bad now. He was just trying to be nice... You guessed. You throw Hank a dirty look, causing him to roll his eyes.
"Sumo..." He catches Connors attention again. "I call him Sumo." Hank has a soft spot for that fluffy creature, and you're not afraid to admit that you do as well. So far, Connor was asking the right questions.
"Do you listen to 'Nights of the Black Death'? I really like that music. It's full of... Energy." Connor asks another question. His word choice was silly... Cute almost. You wondered why the android affected you so much and why you thought these things about it. It doesn't bother you as much as it has previous times, nobody knew what you were thinking anyway...
"You listen to heavy metal?" Hanks' voice was very sceptical as he lifted his eyes back to Connor.
"Well, I don't really listen to music as such... But I'd like to." He smiles and nods. Man, he was really trying to be slick right now.
Hank shakes his head with a weird face and turns his body away from Connor slightly, trying to seem uninterested. But showing by the lieutenant's lack of his usual snarky reply, it was probably another good question to ask. He would warm up to the android... Surely...
They finish off their small talk, so Connor turns to you. "What about you, Sergent L/N? Do you have any animals?" His curious face looks at you.
"Ah, no... I don't exactly have the time to look after a pet, but I do enjoy the company of Sumo every now and then..." You reply honestly. You really did love Hanks dog! Sometimes you would ask to 'hang out' with Hank only for his dog. But not often, since it annoyed him because you 'liked the dog more than him'.
Connor nods. "If you have any files on deviants, I'd like to take a look at them." He drawls out.
"Terminals on your desk. Knock yourself out." You point to the computer. He turns to it, you were both silent after that so you tried to get on with your work.
Keyword... Tried.
You couldn't focus for the life of you. Your brain continued to flashback to earlier in the day when your little incident with Gavin and Connor happened. Connor was clueless, which was funny since he was basically a detective. It seems odd to you that CyberLife wouldn't have programmed something in him to understand and convey basic conversation. He was spectacular at negotiating unstable deviants, but not talking with regular people.
But that shouldn't matter to you. No, it doesn't.
"243 files..." You look to Connor. Is he finished reading them ready? Of course, it's an android. He probably scanned them all at once. "The first dates back nine months... It all started in Detroit, and quickly spread across the country..." He finishes reading from his terminal.
"An AX400 is reported to have assaulted a man last night. That could be a good starting point for our investigation." Connor looks to you, but you motion to Hank. He was the one that needed to be told. You both look at Hank and of course, he wasn't listening.
You could almost say that Connor looked annoyed at the Lieutenants lack of attention. He hesitated for a moment, before getting up and walking over to his partner.
"Ah, Jesus." Hank groans, turning away before focusing his attention on the tablet on his desk.
You sighed. "This won't be good..." You mutter, getting up and following the android. You stand with your arms crossed behind the two, ready to intervene if need be.
Connor leans down next to Hank. "I know you didn't ask for this, Lieutenant. But I'm sure you're a professional." He reasons.
"Why don't you go fuck yourself?" Hank spits out bitterly. Rude, but you expected no less from his grumpy mouth. Connor is only surprised for a moment.
"I've been assigned this mission, Lieutenant. I didn't come here to wait until you feel like working." Connor informs with a determined voice.
This just sets the old man off. He grabs the android by his collar and slams him against the wall with a thud. You scramble over, knowing something like this would happen. You try to push them apart, but with no luck. You weren't as strong as Hank was.
"Listen, asshole. If it was up to me, I'd throw the lot of you in a dumpster and set a match to it. So, stop pissing me off. Or things are going to get nasty." Hank yells in his face.
"Hank! Let go! Stop being irrational and get a hold of yourself. Jeez..." You growl out. He listens to you, but not because he wanted to. He continues to glare at Connor as if he just insulted his mother.
"Lieutenant, Sergent, uh... Sorry to disturb you... I have some information on the AX400 that attacked a guy last night." An officer interrupts. Thank god. You continue to keep a watchful eye on Hank, just in case... "It's been spotted in the Ravendale district."
"We're on it." He grumbles, then struts away.
"Are you alright Connor?" You ask the android, concerned. This time, you don't touch him, only checking for damage with your eyes.
"I'm fine, Y/N. I assure you that you don't have to check on me everytime someone... Pushes me around." He looks down at you with a confused head tilt.
"I can still worry... I can't help it, alright? Why does it matter if I check on you anyway?" You scoff. Would he always be like this, so robotic and emotionless? You turn away to follow after Hank, annoyed, but a hand on your wrist stops you.
"I apologise... Thank you, Y/N. I'm really okay." He shakes his head with a smile. Letting out a sigh, you smile back.
"Alright... Good." You tug on his arm that's still attached to your wrist. "Let's go, we don't want to keep Hanky-poo waiting!"
