last year alex fell madly in love with james, or so she thought. we've known james since first grade back in dallas. they started dating while alex was in tenth grade, he in eleventh with me, and broke up my, and his, senior year. we found out he was cheating when we saw him at a small cafe we really liked back home. he just sat with this girl we didn't even know. i remember it clearly as a tear rolled down alex's cheek. james didn't know we were there as he continued to flirt and talk to this girl. soon he brought his hand up to her face and pulled back a piece of her hair to tuck behind her ear. not soon after they both leaned in for a kiss. once his lips touched hers, alex lost it. tears fell as she turned on her heel and walked out of the cafe. the small bell rang after she shut the door, as i stood there. james's head turned around, still kissing this girl, as he saw alex's back as she ran out. he immediately sat up and started to run after her, but it was too late. he stopped at the door and never ran to her to apologize. she was completely broke after him. she really loved him. my best friend has never been the same.
after saying his name tears threatened to fall out of her stunning ocean blue eyes, similar to daniels. i pulled her into a hug as we heard the crack of a door open. zach and jonah stood in the door frame. alex wiped her tears immediately with the end of zach's hoodie, he'd lent her the night before. my arms fell from her waist as zach stepped forward. he brought his arms up to her face and wiped the remains of her, still falling, tears and pulled her into another hug. unlike her hug with me, she went limp into his arms as he held her close. jonah stepped towards me and wrapped his arm around my waist as he guided me out of the small room. as soon as we were out his hand fell and a wave of disappointment fell onto me. he noticed faster than i could drop the look, as he soon chuckled adorably and put his hand back on my waist while pulling me into a side hug. i laughed as we walked towards the kitchen.
no one questioned as me and jonah strolled into the kitchen, his hand remaining on my waist and i still smiling big. everyone definitely noticed though. not soon after me and jonah finished our food, alex and zach walked into the kitchen hand in hand.
"guys we have something to say." zach started. a smile never left my best friends face as she kept her eyes on zach's face as he talked.
"alex and i are dating." he finished. everyone congratulated them quickly and they separated soon after.
not too far into the day everyone had removed their hoodies from the night before and replaced them with t-shirts and shorts. it was beyond hot in sunny california, so everyone settled for a beach day. august soon left for a meeting and eben had to get ready for his flight home, to see his family. so once we said our goodbyes we packed for the beach. corbyn and jack were on snacks while daniel and zach were on towels. christina brought me and alex upstairs to corbyns room to lend us some bathing suits she keeps here. we soon realized that she only had two at the house. she grabbed her navy blue bikini and i told alex she could use the pink and white lace bikini left in the drawer.
"are you sure?" alex repeated. i nodded and walked downstairs to where everyone was huddled in the living room waiting.
"christina only has two so i'm gonna go into la, i need a new bikini anyways." i told everyone.
"i'll come with." jonah spoke. he immediately stood up and got his keys. i smiled as looked back at everyone.
"you go ahead and we'll meet at the beach." jonah told corbyn, who nodded. after closing the door, me and jonah were off.
we decided on going to a small mall near the boys' house. during the drive we blasted tons of music, mostly why don't we, and totally jammed the hell out of the songs. jonah was impressed as i knew every word to the why don't we songs. even when we were just jamming and not caring what we sound like, jonah was still amazing. he never stopped smiling and i could stop looking at him. i has to pry my eyes away and hide my blush. finally we reached the small mall and parked close.
soon into the mall we found a cute store with bikinis in stock. i grabbed a few i liked and headed to the dressing room, with jonah close behind. i walked into the small room as jonah sat down in the comfortable chairs right outside my door. i quickly slid on my first choice and walked out of the tiny room in a plain black bikini. jonah looked up from his phone as i spoke.
"so?" i asked nervously.
"stunning." he said quietly.
"what?" i asked uncanny of what he had said.
"that's a cute one." he said more clearly.
i turned on two more bathing suits after the black one. a cute white lace top with back bottoms and a baby blue one piece with the sides cut out. after a minute of consultation with jonah i couldn't decide between the plain black bikini or the white lace top with black bottoms.
"just buy both and keep one at the house." jonah said casually. i blushed at his words for some reason and nodded.
after we checked out jonah bought me starbucks before we started for the mall exit.
"oh my gosh jonah they have a think geek here!" i yelled with excitement. jonah's eyes lit up as we practically ran to the glorious store. after shopping for five minutes me and jonah found matching harry potter bracelets. mine had a doe patronus it and his had a stag patronus. they were adorable. i also got a draco malfoy wand. a slitherin necklace, and a white sweatshirt that said "i solemnly swear that I am up to no good" on it. jonah got a harry potter wand and the same hoodie as me. after ten minutes, including check out, we were back on the road heading to the beach. the whole rest of the ride was funny of harry potter talk and dad jokes. something about jonah makes me really happy.
after my cheesy dad joke about giraffes, get on my level, both of our phones buzzed. i grabbed jonah's as he kept his eyes on the road to see a text from the group chat.

i laughed at the texts as i recited then to jonah who soon laughed.

i hit sent as we pulled into the beach parking lot. jonah parked as we set all of our stuff into one big bag and set it on the floor. i grabbed the white lace top and black bottoms and we walked into the sand.
after stopping at the bathroom, for me to change, and a minute of walking we found the guys and alex as we joined them. the boys were all shirtless, aside from jonah, and alex and christina were in their bikinis. jonah pulled his shirt off and i practically had to pry my eyes off his body. i shook it off and looked towards to water. i started walking towards it, leaving jonah to talk with jack, when i felt a presence next to me.
"you look cute in that." he said as i turned my head. i smiled as we continued walking.

"you look cute in that." i said as we walked towards the water. she smiled her gorgeous smile as we continued to walk through the sand. god why do i have to like her so much.
