"jonah." i spoke softly as i carefully shook him awake. his eyes fluttered open as he groaned and rolled on his other side.
"the nurse has news about megan." i spoke with a smile. his eyes shot open as he hopped up immediately smiling. i laughed as he practically tore his hoodie off and threw some decent clothes on. he never takes that hoodie off anymore.
it's been about two weeks since the crash. jonah always tries to stay with megan for as long as he can, but still lets the rest of us see her as well. he hasn't been sleeping or eating well and we were starting to get worried. that is, until i got the call. daniel on the other hand, barely speaks to us at all. he completely ignores jonah for his own reasons. sometimes i think he gets so mad he forgets about megan. megan's mother, father, and brother had come up last week to visit. sadly, they had to leave but made me promise to call when something happened. i made sure to text megan's mother about the news, but told her to stay in dallas until we know for sure. we've grown to know megan's brother, casey. he's a lot like megan, which caused daniel to not like him that much. jonah on the other hand, became close to casey. the family didn't want to go, but casey had school and the adults had their jobs.
"come on corbyn." jonah yelled snapping me out my thoughts. i laughed at his excitement. it was nice to see and hear him happy again.
i followed him down the stairs as he grabbed a granola bar off the kitchen table. everyone was sitting in the living room waiting. zach and alex were cuddled up on the loveseat, jack and daniel sat on the right side of the large sofa, and christina waited for me at the bottom of the stairs. i smiled as i placed a soft quick kiss on her pink lips before grabbing my keys.
we had decided last week that it was more of a trouble to get the van fixed than it was to get a new one. so we got a new one and it works great. jack wouldn't let us leave the dealership without knowing ever aspect of the cars safety.
everyone got up and started to head out of the house. zach held alex's hand as she rubbed her red eyes. she hasn't been well since the crash. she eats and sleeps, but only because of zach. she refuses to see megan alone and doesn't talk much anymore. everyone's been down but jack and i try and keep everyone going.
i closed the door behind everyone as they all flooded into the new van. i hopped into the drivers seat with a smile. in a couple minutes we were at the top familiar hospital. jonah was the first out of the car, daniel close behind him.
"wait!" alex yelled after them as she ran, leaving zach wide eyed. he soon relaxed and smiled at his girlfriends joy. christina wrapped her arm around mine as we walked. as i opened the main door i could hear laughter.
"please come on liz." alex pleaded to the nurse. having being at the hospital so much we've grown fond of the nurse, enough to know her name.
"we have to wait for corbyn." liz laughed. alex groaned as i stepped forward smiling.
"i'm here." i spoke giving liz a quick side hug.
"okay. so we were running our daily tests on megan when we found something in her brain activity." she started grabbing the attention of all my friends.
"her mind seems to be conscious, so she should be waking up soon." she spoke happily.
"can we all see her?" jonah spoke with excitement. liz laughed and nodded. everyone quickly walked out the hallway door and down the hall to her room. jonah opened the door letting everyone in, as him and daniel took the top chairs next to her. everyone stood around her, close.
"guys give her some space." jack laughed. smiling everyone backed up a little. soon everyone was chatting as we waited.
hours went by as everyone's smiles had soon faded. christina, jack, and zach had gone out to get some food. alex didn't want to leave, along with jonah and daniel.
"i'll be right back." daniel spoke getting up. i looked at him confused.
"bathroom." he spoke annoyed. taken aback, i moved away from the door as he opened it and huffed away. i rolled my eyes. his attitude has been through the roof lately. alex took daniels seat as jonah grabbed megan's hand.
"we're here mj." alex spoke quietly. jonah looked up at her.
"everyone used to call her that back home. her middle name is josophine, so we called her mj. she used to hate it but now she likes it." alex explained as a tear rolled down her face. jonah nodded, his eyes sparkling as alex spoke about megan, as he looked back at megan.
moments later he opened his mouth and started to sing. i recognized the song immediately to be 'flightless bird' by iron and wine. he sang the song perfectly. none of us had done much singing for a while. we were still on break from tour and hadn't been making new music lately. he kept singing, even thought tears fell from his brown eyes. he blinked them away with his long eyelashes and just kept going until the song ended. once he was done he looked back up to me. i smiled and started to hum the opening music to 'just to see you smile', megan's favorite. jonah and alex smiled as they joined in. in seconds we were all smiling and singing to the gorgeous song. once we finished it was silent other than a painful chuckle from jonah.

the song was undoubtedly beautiful, but the fact that it was megan's favorite made it even more special. i couldn't help but laugh. i looked down at my shaking hand, holding megan's. her hand had progressively gotten warmer every time i come and see her. i thought i was going crazy when i felt her hand move. i thought i was going insane. that is, until i looked up and corbyn who had his eyes wide open.
"you saw that?" i spoke softly. he nodded as i looked at alex.
"megan?" she whispered. nothing.
"meg?" i spoke so quiet i could barely hear myself. nothing. a tear fell from my eye as i looked down. when i finally looked back up at the gorgeous girl in the bed, her eyes were open. i smiled, relieved to see her stunning blue eyes again.
