Don't Drink the Kool-Aid

"Damnit, Kris!" Julio tried pulling me back in the closet, but somehow I managed to avoid his grasp ing hands and sprinted in the opposite direction of Oswin.

"But our sing-along!" The assassin screeched after me.

      "AAAAHHHHHHH!!!" I replied.

"You want to sing something different?" Oswin asked hopefully between fake hiccuping sobs.

"AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!" I reiterated in plainer english. It occurred to me then that I had left Mew and Julio somewhere behind me within reaching distance of a psychopath; however, it had also become quite clear I was the only real target. I hoped they were safe and hadn't followed me all the same.

Mew

     Kristen!

"Aaaahhhhh?" One day I won't be surprised when they appear out of nowhere. Do you remember when I told you that looking behind you while running is a very bad idea? Oh good, then my smashing cosmetic job isn't a surprise to you. Yes, I found myself a lovely steel wall to redo my face. "Oww."

Oswin's footsteps abruptly stopped echoing down the hallway as I he paused to cover his mouth and muffle a bark of laughter. Giving him a nasty look, I rubbed my nose and firmly grasped Mew's tail in my hands ready to use her as a bola when the opportunity presented itself.

"You're so silly, Kristen. How am I supposed to do my job if you run into walls and make it easier for me?" In the blink of an eye he had his hands around my throat and the opportunity I was waiting for was lost. My feet dangled just above the floor as he pinned me against the wall with just his hands around my throat. "You take all the fun out of everything," he growled, something dangerous dancing behind his copper eyes.

Mew

I have an idea! Get him off you!

If my eyes weren't already trying to give me a peek at the inner workings of my head, I might have rolled my eyes at her very unhelpful advice. I tried pulling at Oswin's elbows, trying to make his arm bend in its natural direction and provide me some kind of upper hand to slip away, but he remained steadfast. The oxygen cut off was making my eyes tear up and pressure build up in my skull, I could feel my body trying to shut down my conscious state as a protective measure.

Mew ferociously clawed at Oswin's face, his grip faltered enough to allow oxygen to my brain and the distraction allowed me to get my elbow above his arm and drive it down to the floor, effectively loosening his grip. I threw myself against the adjacent wall, catching Mew as she barrelled into my core and we winked out of existence.

"Kristen!" Julio threw his arms around me, knocking over a bucket and making the mop slam sharply along the ground.

"Mew!" I wiggled out of Julio's embrace and caught her tail again. "Why did you teleport us into the closet we were just in and not somewhere more useful!? Like outside!" Locking my fingers around her small frame I kept her from slinking away, glowering at her till she responded.

Mew

     I panicked.

"Kristennnnnnn." My exasperated sigh turned into a small gasp of horror. "Where did you go????" Oswin whined from down the hall.

Julio flashed a smile and I wondered where his sanity had run off to before he held out his hand and asked, "Shall we run for our lives?"

I managed a half smirk in reply. "Let's."

We raced down the hallway towards the entrance I had crept through unsuccessfully earlier- though there was an obvious lack of burly shirtless men trying to blockade our escape, which I  would have thought was slightly unfair if I hadn't dared a look behind us and saw Oswin skipping after us. The macho man would be much more welcomed than the deranged assassin.
