Irwin side ~ 'the one who is diffident'
"Ash, could you please pass the syrup?" Amanda asked nicely during breakfast, something she hadn't done in the past week after the nerve wrecking incident from last Saturday. "Ah...Mom, Luke and I are going out today."
She just mentioned it as if it was no big deal, and our mom agreed to it as if it was really not a big deal. It irked me, so I had to speak up. "That's the first time I heard about it."
"You know, Ashton, you're prettier when you keep your mouth shut." My sister tried to kick my ankle under the table, but I saw it coming and dodged it easily.
Our mother was too busy scrolling through her phone to be pestered by our daily routine of small arguments regarding Luke. "Amanda, you know the drill. Unless you ask your older brother permission first, don't expect me to agree, either."
That's the only thing I liked about our system at home. Since I was the only guy around, I was in charge of Amanda when it came to things like 'dating' or 'going out'. Even if Luke was a saint in my mother's eyes, she still went with my instinct on this...Most of the time.
Amanda was probably hiding it from me in hopes that I would agree at the very last minute, like I usually do because I tend to spoil her rotten to the core. "Ash...Can I go out with Luke today?"
She asked with that innocent face of hers, it was adorable, my response to her was clear. "Of course you can."
"Yay!"
"Next week." I finished my statement, then tried dodging the next hit under the table, but it came right on my arm instead. "Hey!"
"Stop being selfish! You know I haven't seen him all week!"
"Amanda, don't raise your voice, honey." Mom was lecturing us with a flat tone, not even looking at us since her eyes were still glued on her phone. "Ashton, compromise with her, darling."
Right. Compromise.
How the hell was I supposed to that? The guy barged into my room last time, threw a bucket of ice cold water on to me while I was sleeping, and embarrassed me in front of my little sister!
On top of all that, I ended up having a really bad cold for the next few days thanks to him.
And my sister was expecting me to forget that it all happened and allow her to go out with that demon? Nope. "Not today, Amanda."
"Ughh, you're a jerk! Iー" She was cut off short when our door bell chimed. "He's here!"
"You're kidding, right? You invited him even before you consulted me on this?!" I was getting ready to go back to my room with the rest of my breakfast before Amanda could reach the door, but it was too late. "Fuck my life..."
"It's nice to see you, too." He couldn't possibly fail to piss me off even more by carelessly winking at me. "You should also stop making that face or you'll get wrinkles at a young age."
"I'll take your advice, bye." I ended up leaving my delicious food half eaten while I locked my door shut. Even if I were to take it with me and eat it at my own comfort, it would still leave a bitter after-taste in my mouth after talking to him.
"Ah! Ash, wait...Can I go out today?!" Amanda pleaded over and over from the other side of the wooden entrance.
Being the kind big brother that I was, I ended up giving her the permission just so that I couldn't see Luke's face for the rest of that day. "Just make sure to leave him out of the house."
