Irwin side ~ 'the one who can't resent'

Dreadful; it's the feeling that you get when you see the one you love, smiling at another person while not having any idea that you're in the same room. It's like I got hit by a thousand-pound bricks and thrown into an avalanche, or somewhere blisteringly cold since I was left frozen by my view.

"What do you think they're talking about?" Calum whispered to me after a minute of staying still. "...Its probably nothing serious, I meanー"

He zipped his lips when Michael stood up from his seat. He still didn't notice us as he left the diner, slamming the doors open with rage. Luke went after him and that's when I followed their lead and took a stand. My friend quickly grabbed one of my wrists to pull me back down though, "Wait! Try to calm down first."

With my pulse quickening and hands starting to shake, it was hard to not consider it some sort of panic attack. "Remember when you asked me...How I would feel if Michael still liked him?"

Calum nodded to me. "You said it wouldn't matter, as long as Luke didn't like him back."

"Exactly," and normally, I would say it again. I could talk all I wanted about how much I trusted Luke, but after what I had seen...I wasn't even sure anymore. "I need to know what they're doing."

Not even my best friend could stop me from doing that. As a matter of fact, he joined me afterwards, but in the meantime he stayed in his seat. I could feel his eyes burning holes on my back as I opened the glass door and was greeted by a sweep of cold air.

"Michael, please listen." Luke was speaking softly, there was no hint of anger in his tone, whatsoever. "I don't want to be in bad terms with you again."

Mikey opened his mouth to reply, but he closed it when he saw me walking towards them. His arms were crossed, the sky was getting darker and I was already having trouble speaking. "I...I want to know what's going on..."

"Ashton..." Luke turned his whole body around to face me, he touched the top of his beanie and trailed his hand down to his nape. "What are you doing here? At this exact time?"

"I'm here with Calum..." We had a normal conversation, in our natural voices, but the aura around the three of us wasn't anywhere near fine. "We saw you two come in and...Then leave in a flash, I just..."

"Shit, you're not supposed to be here..." He huffed to himself, cursing at the past-sunset colored sky. "Fuck...What am I gonna do now..."

Why wasn't I supposed to be there? I was trying my hardest not to get the wrong idea. Fortunately, Luke didn't used that stereotypical 'it's not what it looks like' phrase as I took a step closer to him, once again asking. "What's wrong? Are you two okay?"

"Luke, just tell him..." I'd never seen Michael so relaxed in my life. Sure, he always had a tired expression on his face, no one could blame him since he had school and his job to take off hours from sleep than any other teenager, but this time was different. He was genuinely tired of being quiet, or something. "If you don't, I'll do it."

"Tell me what?" With every second passing, I could feel my cheeks reddening and...It wasn't because of embarrassment. "Are you hiding something from me, Luke?"

He glanced back at Michael, just for a brief period, as if to tell him to keep quiet. "I think...We should talk about this someplace else, Ashton."

I clenched my fists, it was just to stop them from shaking so much. "What's wrong with doing it here? Michael knows, apparently. So you could say it in front of him, right?"
