Irwin side ~ 'the one who doesn't get him'

I don't understand Luke. I never did. He was always teasing me about that gay rumor, messing around in a flirtatious way and I always tried to ignore him. It was enough that I had to go through that kind of shit at school, so why did he had to ruin my life like that at home?

Besides that, he had always been the kind of guy that has everyone begging him to be their friend. And yet, there he was...Acting as if he was begging me for the same thing.

Luke: Hey, wake up. I get out of work early today, wanna do something? Give me a call.

It had been exactly a month after he had given me his phone number. I could honestly say that I wasn't planning on using it, but after a while of recurring nightmares and feelings of anxiety, I sent him a call for help a couple of weeks before.

Ever since, he became like a texting machine. Always replying to me in a matter of seconds and would often ask if I needed anything from any store he would visit. I was truly amazed at how kind he was being to me.

We didn't talked about it. About that fight, if you could even call it that since I wasn't throwing any of the punches, about what happened after that fight, about my problems or about my social life at all...Instead, we talked about our likes and dislikes...Luke was just trying to get to know me, not pressuring me into opening up to him any time soon. It was comforting.

Without ceasing these thoughts, I dialled his number and agreed to do something that Saturday, for a change of pace.

〜 The scent of fresh 'out of the oven' pizza roamed the place as Luke and I waited for our order to be placed in front of us. "So..."

"I paid. It's your turn to tell me an embarrassing story." He instantly reminded me of our last encounter. It wasn't the first time we had hung out, and we developed somewhat of a stupid game on the last meet.

Whoever pays for food first, wins. Loser has to tell an ignominious tale.

I didn't know where to even start. Half my life has been a humiliating roller coaster and both, Calum and Michael were involved in most scenarios. I didn't wanted to talk about them, yet. So I shrugged and told him a lie. "Well...Uhh...Once, there was a girl in sixth grade who I dated for about...Four months, right? But during those whole four months, she thought I was someone else."

What the fuck was I even saying? To Luke, this had to sound like a real joke. "I didn't noticed it until she called me 'John' one day and I was all, 'Wait, what? Who's John?!'..."

For a while, he was serious. He was looking at me, studying my every move to perhaps come up with the real conclusion that I was lying. I was ready to confess, too, but he suddenly chuckled. "How come you didn't know sooner, John?"

Oh, great, he was going along with it. I mentally sighed in relief and kept blabbing fake shit. "Well. We were always giving each other nicknames. She started calling me 'honey' on the first date, and we went from there...never really saying our first names. I don't even remember hers."

"And how do you feel? Knowing that someone only dated you because they thought you were another person...?" He asked, somehow seeming interested but his voice was nothing but monotone.

I took a sip of my soda at the same time some lady placed our fast food in the table and left, but not before giving Luke a flirty smile and wink. "Uhh...It was sixth grade. I don't think I gave a damn..."
