Monika packed her things into her locker after the bell rang, dismissing everyone from their last class of the day. She swapped her things for a book, notebook, and a folder labeled Literature Club Papers. She needed to fill them out every so often, she was the president after all.Monika walked with her things in her arms down the hall to the literature club. Monika stopped mid way. "I could've sworn I heard something..." Monika thought to herself, leaning against the wall for a few moments.
She was right, she heard a couple male and a female's voices. Monika followed the direction of the voices, peaking around the corner at the scene before her.
Before Monika was three boys surrounding another club member, Yuri. Yuri's bag had everything taken out and tossed around the hall tile.
"Please, just what do you want from me?!" Yuri's voice croaked, her back against the wall. "Roll up them sleeves, let's see how bad the ordered cuts have gotten." One of the boys reached for Yuri's arm, which Yuri quickly brought to her chest. "Chest works too." Another boy sneered, grabbing Yuri's upper chest region and bounching them around. Yuri looked defenseless in this situation to Monika, but as badly as she wanted to defend her purple-haired shy friend, she was too afraid to get mangled in with them.
Monika went back to her route to the club. "Monika! See I knew she'd show up!" A familiar bubbly and cheery voice full of excitement said right as Monika opened the door to the literature club. "So, what were you doing Monika?" That voice belonged to the pink-haired tsundere, Natsuki. "I got lost and... Had to take the long way." Monika made up an excuse as she set her things down on the teacher's desk at the front of the room. "I would've saved you a cupcake, but SOMEBODY ate them all." Natsuki glared at Sayori, who had a guilty smile on her face. Monika smiled at the two girls. "Classic Sayori..." She thought to herself as the two girls continued. "It's not my fault they're so good!" Sayori pleaded, making Monika laugh. "You see Yuri on the way? It's not that I care if she's here, frankly we could do without her, but I want to share poems!" Natsuki reached into her bag for her poem. "I don't know if she'll be--." Monika had been cut off by Yuri bursting into the room and imediately slamming the door closed. "Oh! Um... Uh... Hey guys.." Yuri looked down and played with a strand of hair as she took her seat. "Something definitely happened there, her hair is all over the place." Monika thought, observing Yuri as she got her poem and book out. "We'll let Yuri settle before sharing poems just yet." Monika declared, getting an annoyed groan from Natsuki.
Monika opened her notebook and reached for the pink pen she kept in her uniform jacket pocket. Monika began to write a new poem for the day after seeing what happened to Yuri, despite thinking the one she wrote last night was probably alot better.
Once Monika was satisfied with the new poem outcome, she set her pen down and stood up from her chair.
"Okay everyone, time to share poems!" Monika announced. Natsuki grabbed her poem and dashed over to where Sayori was sitting.
"Oh. Yes let me get my poem out hold on." Yuri timidly marked her page in her book and got out her poem.
Monika read the poem in her head.
"The tendrils of my hair illuminate beneath the amber glow.
Bathing.
It must be this one.
The last remaining streetlight to have withstood the test of time.
The last yet to be replaced by the sickening blue-green of the future.
I bathe. Calm; breathing air of the present but living in the past.
The light flickers.
I flicker back."It did feel like something Yuri would write, considering all of the other poems she's written.
Monika handed Yuri back her poem, and Yuri handed Monika's back. "What do... You think..?" Yuri asked, placing her poem on her desk. "I really like it, it's a Yuri poem." Monika smiled to Yuri, who in return looked away and played with a stray strand of hair. "Stupid Monika! Think before you say that! You probably embarrassed her greatly and this will NOT help her situation." Monika mentally scolded herself, waiting for Yuri's reply about her poem. "Yours was... Interesting..." Yuri finally commented. "Yeah, I wrote it last minute..." Monika admitted. Sayori trotted over to Yuri's side. "Hey Yuri, wanna share poems?" The peach-haired girl asked. "Oh um.. Sure." Yuri grabbed her poem from her desk and traded with Sayori.
Poem sharing went as usual, but of course Sayori asked if it related to Monika's real life in any way.
As badly as Monika wanted to spread that Yuri was getting bullied (and possibly more), she knew Yuri wouldn't want somebody to make a huge deal out of it.
But she couldn't just be the silent standby... No... She wasn't going to just let it happen to her. Yuri doesn't deserve this treatment.
And from there, Monika knew her plan.
