Finally arriving at school, Monika checked to make sure all her homework had been done over the long weekend. All she had was a little bit of math, which she had finished. Other then that, Monika had her poem for the literature club.
"Oh... That... The one Natsuki almost read aloud.."
Monika shivered at the thought. Thinking back, that's the part of the weekend she wouldn't want to relive.
Either way when the literature club came at the end of the day, everyone would read it.
"Unless... I only show that one to Yuri..."
Monika had a cheeky grin on her face without even noticing. She finally got the memo when another classmate gave her strange side glare, but that didn't matter right now! Monika had a poem to write and only so many classes to write it!
Monika quickly whipped out a spare piece of lined paper and put the tip of her pencil eraser to her lips, gazing around. What would she write about?
"Well there's lots of... Er... Kids here and... Walls... Walls! I'll write about walls!"
Monika had no idea how to put this idea into action, but she planned on doing it.
All of class Monika went through the same rotation for 45 minutes. She brainstormed an idea, read over it, crumpled the paper, threw it into the trash bin, and started another poem. None of her drafts seemed to work.
"I'll make this work. Nobody else can see what I wrote about Yuri."
Determined as a mouse who will one day leave it's hole for cheese only to get caught in a mouse trap, Monika say down in her next class and started writing about walls once again.
Nothing good done here either, and the teacher even told her off for writing in class.
Next class, Monika had finally gotten her poem done.
Walls
They're always by my side, and bring friends closer together
They keep sound from escaping, and are fun to decorate
But they also isolate us from the real world
They keep us captive, acting as a barrier from the real world
Their windows only show us what we wish we had, or wish to see, but we're stuck on the inside always looking out
Save me.
Monika smiled at her poem when she held it infront of her to read over it. This was one of her favorites by far. This only made Monika more excited for the literature club today, not just because she got to end her day by seeing Yuri.
Finally arriving at the literature club, Monika grabbed both poems out of her bag and faced them down on the teacher's desk. She also got out her calculus homework to do.
Yuri got there not much later. Yuri completely distracted Monika from her work.
"She's so graceful with every movement... Her hair flows perfectly... There's nothing wrong with her!"
Monika stared dreamy-eyed as Yuri prepared her own little space at her desk.
"Back to work Monika. You need to get this done."
Looking back to her homework, Monika stared confused at the equation given to her.
"Hey um.. Yuri?" Monika spoke up. "I need help with my calculus homework.." Monika said, but Yuri didn't seen to mind. Monika knew Yuri hated wasting her precious reading time just to help Monika. She hated bothering Yuri over little things like club papers and homework.
"Here, try going at it like this.." Yuri placed her hand over top of Monika's on the pencil.
"Her hand is so soft, and grip so gental... Monika no! Snap outta it! She doesn't even want to help you!"
Carefully, Yuri rewrote the problem in a different form. "Does that make more sense?" Yuri asked, still resting her hand on top of Monika's. "I.. Er.. Yes..." Monika stuttered. She hated when she stuttered, especially infront of Yuri. She made herself look like a fool.
"Any club papers that need done?" Yuri asked, taking her hand off of Monika's and looking down on the brown-haired girl. "Umm... No don't think so.." Monika replied.
Not much later, Sayori and Natsuki burst into the club room.
"How about you consider manga literature, THEN we can talk." Natsuki threw her bag down by her chair and crossed her arms, facing her back to Sayori. "Oh I didn't mean that!" Sayori pleaded, placing a hand on Natsuki's shoulder. "Then what DID you mean?" Natsuki closed her eyes, keeping the stance she was in the same. "I meant that not everyone considers it literature, and that for the festival you shouldn't present one of your manga because not everyone will think it's literature." Sayori explained.
That sparked a lightbulb for Monika.
"The festival! I have to assign parts before club time ends!"
"Okay everyone! Now that we're all here, let's get to sharing poems!" Monika announced, grabbing both of her poems. She folded the one Yuri was meant to see and hid it in the vest of her uniform.
She saw that Natsuki debated who to go to first with her poem hugged tight to her chest. Sayori jumped over to Natsuki though, so Monika had no choice but to go to Yuri to start.
"At least it'll be out of the way."
"He... Here Yuri.." Monika reached into her vest to grab the poem, unfolding it and handing it to Yuri. Once again, she hated herself for stuttering.
Yuri handed Monika her's to read.
After both girls read each other's poems, Yuri gave Monika a confused look.
"Well, if there's anything you want to talk about, I'm always open to listen." Yuri said, taking her own poem over to Sayori.
"Either way, talking with her would waste her time."
After Monika showed the others her Walls poem, Sayori said she was ready to listen whenever Monika needed somebody to vent to.
Natsuki, of course, thought the poem was too complex for anyone to understand.
Once poem sharing finished, Monika stood up infront of the class and started speaking.
"Okay! So we know the festival is coming soon, and this year we get to participate! Everyone will have a job and you'll be in groups helping each other with your tasks. Yuri will work with me, and Sayori will work with Natsuki." Monika announced.
"Well at least I don't have to work with Yuri." Natsuki spat, turning to face Sayori. "I'll make cupcakes, and I'm sure I won't require assistance doing so." She said with a confident tone, and Sayori nodded her head in understanding.
"Well, that's out of the way at least. I was going to have you make cupcakes anyway Natsuki." Monika smiled slightly. "Tch, duh of course you would! I make the best cupcakes out of anyone to ever exist!" Natsuki boasted. "I think the festival guests will be the judge of that." Yuri gave a soft smile to match her soothing tone in voice.
"Either way, I was going to have Sayori work on advertising, Yuri on decorations, and myself with scheduling events." Monika finished, getting nods of approval from around the room.
Club was over, and Monika knew she'd have to meet up with Yuri, even though she didn't want to.
She wanted to, but then also didn't.
She couldn't make up her mind.
Yuri walked over to Monika. "I think we should meet after school tomorrow, and we can work on scheduling in club tomorrow as well." Yuri said. "I... Er.. Yes! We can do that, sounds good!" Monika mentally face palmed.
"Stupid! Why would you act like you just good married! She's not going to marry you, this is high school!"
"Well, see you tomorrow Monika." Yuri gave Monika a small smile (which made Monika feel blessed by the heavens) and continued on her way out of the clubroom.
But one thing came to Monika's mind when she entered her house.
"Yuri's bullies!"
