Monika went home that day thinking of ways she could help Yuri. She had the general idea, but would need to know a few things from Yuri first.Monika looked at her bedside table clock. realizing how late it was she knew Yuri would he sleeping, so she went to bed herself.
The next morning Monika woke up a little bit earlier to write her poem, sticking with the storyline she started the previous day.
Once she was ready, she began her walk to school.
"This is for a friend, no matter how weird this feels. She needs you, and you're going to be there for her." Monika told herself as she neared the school's enterance.
Monika went to her first class to drop off her things, her next move was to search for Yuri.
Monika speed-walked down the halls, ignoring the constant greetings from friends and strangers alike. She couldn't help that she was popular and she preferred not to be sometimes, now more than ever she wanted to be normal. She wanted to be in Yuri's shoes for a day, experience what her day is like so she could get a better understanding of how she can help.
Monika looked at the time and sighed, she had to get back to class before the first bell and she still hadn't found Yuri.
Defeated, Monika went to grab a drink at a nearby water fountain by her first class.
She stopped when she heard what sounded like pencils fall to the floor.
Monika peered around the corner to find Yuri, her back against the wall with her things scattered across the floor.
Monika looked at a clock. She'd be late if she stuck around any longer.
"It's for Yuri, a friend."
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" Monika stepped out from behind the corner, confronting the boys. "Well if it isn't Ms Monika Popular!" One of the boys teased, but another shushed him. "You'll be late Monika, wouldn't want to ruin your perfect attendance." The boy who was holding down Yuri mocked. "Why would you choose Yuri of all people?" Monika asked, ignoring their continuous snobby remarks and comments.
The first bell rang and the three boys grabbed their bags and scattered.
"Probably afraid of being caught..."
"Monika why are you here? You have better things to do..." Yuri finally spoke. "Because I don't want to see you this way! Nobody deserves this!" Monika rushed to Yuri's side, helping Yuri gather her scattered supplies.
"You have better things to worry about then me..." Yuri said as they both walked to their first classes. "I honestly don't Yuri... I can't stand seeing a friend harmed like that..." Monika admitted, looking down to hide her sudden blush. Monika didn't know why she felt this way for Yuri, but she didn't mind it. "Fri... Friend..?" Yuri hesitated. "Yeah.. We're friends aren't we?" Monika asked, finally able to look at Yuri. "Ye.. Yeah... We're friends..." Yuri said, looking away and playing with a stray strand of hair.
"Well this is my stop, see you at the club Yuri!" Monika smiled, waving bye to Yuri.
Yuri just smiled in response and continued on her way.
Monika was called out for being tardy to class, and luckily received only a warning. She wasn't sure how Yuri's teacher would take it, but she was confident that Yuri wouldn't be in too much trouble.
Monika arrived first to the club, getting out her poem, a pencil, her math homework, and club papers.
Yuri arrived second, setting her bag beside her usual desk and stood besude Monika at the teacher's desk.
"Need help with anything?" Yuri asked, looking at the probably countless papers scattered on Monika's desk. "Umm, yeah sure! Thanks Yuri, you can pull up a chair if you'd like!" Monika smiled.
Once Yuri had her chair beside Monika, she got to work on the club papers while Monika did her math homework.
Yuri had finished quicker then Monika had expected, and once Yuri said she was done Monika had only finished one problem.
"Here Monika, you do it like this..." Yuri placed her hand on top of Monika's pen-holding hand, guiding it through the equation's steps and explaining it as she went.
"Thanks Yuri, I thought I'd never get all that done..." Monika thanked Yuri, relieved that she understood her homework now thanks to Yuri. "No problem..." Yuri said in return, taking the chair back to the desk just as Natsuki and Sayori walked in.
"Monika tell Sayori that if she wants something from the vending machines she has to pay for it herself!" Natsuki shouted, but Sayori only kept giggling.
Monika sighed, reaching into her pocket to pull out a dollar bill and handed it to Sayori.
"Here, now she can pay." Monika said. Sayori happily took the dollar and stuffed it in her backpack.
Everyone shared poems, and as usual Sayori was concerned about Monika, Natsuki said it was too complicated, and Yuri handed it back saying it was different from what Monika normally wrote.
"Okay everyone, almost time to go--." Monika was cut off by Sayori. "We do have tomorrow off for teacher conferences, how about we all get together?" Sayori said, standing on Monika's chair at the front of the room. "I like the idea Sayori, but who's house?" Monika asked, holding the chair so Sayori wouldn't fall. "I think we should go to Sayori's house, she does have spare rooms after all..." Natsuki said and everyone agreed.
Before they all left, Sayori got all of our numbers and created a group chat called The Doki Doki Literature Club. Nobody questioned it knowing it's Sayori we're talking about.
Monika began to pack a bag of necessities when she got home.
Sayori wanted everyone to bring their favorite movie, so Monika did as instructed and packed her favorite movie.
"Pajamas... Check! Movie... Check! Book... Check! Charger and phone... Check! Clothes for the morning... Check as well!" Monika said to herself as she went over everything she was packing.
She didn't know what Sayori had planned to do, but it didn't matter. Yuri would be there, free from the pain of those bullies.
Monika wanted to proect Yuri forever, from any harm in this reality.
Yuri was Monika's friend, and she didn't want Yuri to fear losing her.
As if Natsuki wasn't enough, she had daily bullies stopping her down the halls.
Monika knew that she'd do anything to make sure Yuri's safe.
