3. Coffees And Cake

I looked at the old wooden clock in my room. There were still five minutes left for Alex to arrive. I cannot believe I managed to get ready so quickly! Of course, this wouldn't have been possible if Jessica had not woken me up early. I'm grateful to have her.

I take a deep breath to calm myself down. I was feeling so excited as well as a bit nervous at the same time.

' Calm down Angel, it's just a ride to university. '

I looked out of the window and saw Alex's car arriving towards my house. I quickly grabbed my cell phone and bag and ran down the stairs, shutting the main door with a loud 'thud' in excitement.

" Good morning! " I chirped as Alex got out of the car to open the door for me.

' Oh, what a sweet guy! ' I thought.

' The one you cannot have... ' my inner self replied.

My inner voice always managed to dull my mood even in my most exciting times. How lovely of it!

" Good morning, beautiful," smiled Alex.

I blushed at the compliment and looked at his smiling face. His teeth were so perfectly aligned and sparkling white.

I sat inside the car. Alex too got in and started driving. Just then, I heard the sound of a door closing and turned around to see. It seemed to have been emitted from the neighbour's house. I found myself thinking about the boy I saw in the balcony. I wrapped my hands around myself and tried not to think about him and instead enjoy the present moment.

I noticed that Alex was not driving on the usual route to university from my house.

" Is this some other route that leads to university? " I enquired.

" Do you really believed I was planning to ride you to university? "

" But... " I tried to say something but stopped as I heard Alex chuckling softly.

" I don't usually do what I say, " said Alex and grinned naughtily.

I opened my mouth in shock but closed it and grinned back to him.

" So where are we actually going? " I asked.

" You will know it soon, and I am sure you would love what I have planned for us today," said Alex and squeezed my hand softly.

It made my heart go crazy.

' What has Alex planned for me? ' I wondered.

Various thoughts started running through my mind. All the things I had dreamt for us seemed to be closer to becoming a reality. But, as they say, dreams don't come true. Maybe I am over thinking and being overexcited.

After about a half an hour ride, Alex parked his car in front of a restaurant. There were fountains and a lush green garden outside. The restaurant was painted in a navy blue colour and had big glass windows.

Alex got out of the car and opened the door for me. I stepped out of the car, still in awe with the beauty of the restaurant and its surroundings. Alex placed his hand on my back gently, sending a shiver through my body and guided me to the entrance of the restaurant.

The interior of the restaurant was equally beautiful and plush. It had off white tiles and the walls were painted in brown and white shades. The furniture and other decorations were colour-coordinated with the walls and tiles. The lights were golden with scented candles lit around the place.

" This place is so beautiful! " I exclaimed.

" Like you... " whispered Alex near my ears.

' I must be looking so flushed right now. ' I remarked to myself.

A short, plump man greeted us and offered to take us to the table reserved by Alex for us. He introduced himself as Mr.Huggins.

' Alex had planned all this for me? Am I really on a date with Alex Hunt? '

We followed Mr.Huggins towards the elevator and stepped inside. The elevator door closed and I noticed Alex staring at me. There were no words to describe the look he held in his eyes as he looked at me. I looked back at him, holding my breath. His hands were still placed gently on my back.

The lift door opened on the third floor. Mr.Huggins stepped out and gestured us to follow him. He took us to our table. Alex pulled out the chair for me. Once I was seated, he too went over and sat in the chair in front of me and grinned.

A tall, lean and beautiful waitress placed the menu cards on our table.

" Good morning Sir, Madam. " she greeted with a smile.

" Good morning, " I replied.

" What would you like to have? " asked Alex.

" A cup of coffee with a pastry would be good. " I answered.

" Two coffees and the cake, please. " Alex told to the waitress.

" Sure sir, have a nice day. "

I looked around the place absorbing the elegance of it.

" So have you been seeing someone? " Alex questioned.

" No... have you... " I tried to ask nervously.

" No, I have been single now for a while. "

" That's nice. " I chirped.

I mentally slapped myself for expressing my happiness on the fact that he is single.

" And me being single makes you happy? " asked Alex in a teasing tone.

" Umm... I mean it's nice to be single sometimes, I mean once in a while, " I replied.

" I mean being single is not bad right? " I continued.

Alex chuckled and said, " Being in love isn't bad too. "

" Are you in love? " I asked softly.

My heart was thumping loudly. Here I am, once again inviting a heartbreak by asking such a sensitive question to my emotions.

" Maybe... " Alex answered with a smile.

As expected! There was no point in asking him this. He was Alex Hunt, after all, I have heard enough names of the girls he has dated. I don't want to hear any more of those so I preferred not to ask him who that girl is this time. I tried to put on a fake smile and act at ease.

" That's good, the person must be very lucky. " I said in the best way I could.

" Yes, she is. " grinned Alex.

" Are you in love? Do you like someone? " asked Alex.

' Yes, I like you! I have liked you for so many years! But you have been blind towards my feelings... '

Well, this was what I had wanted to say out loud but in reality, all I could do is look down.

However, I was lucky enough to avoid answering the question as the waitress placed our cups of coffee and cake on the table.

Sorry for the late update, I have been caught up with my studies and other stuff but the next ten chapters are already ready as a draft although they require to be written in a better form and be edited. You could expect me to update earlier than usual!
