After taking a warm long shower, I got dressed in jeans and a comfortable t-shirt. I took out a notebook from my bag and tore a sheet of paper. I tried to draw a rough map of Huntsville.
The Hunt's Mansion was situated in the middle of Huntsville. To it's right were the houses of the factory workers and to its left was the Crinkies Chocolate Factory. There were two gates at the front and the back of Huntsville. The front gate was used for entering and exit purpose for visitors and everyone else whereas the back gate was used only for the trucks which delivered the chocolates.
I knew that entering the factory without getting caught was next to impossible. I needed to figure out a way out of the mansion and into the factory. I got up and walked towards the window. I slid the curtain and took a view of the houses of the workers. A middle-aged woman was sitting out of her house eyeing some children who were playing in front of her house.
There were over 15 single-storeyed compact houses next to each other. Another woman was putting up clothes on a rope tied to two poles for drying. I slid the curtain close and went towards the other window. Sliding the curtain open I took a look outside. There were only grass and another house far away from Huntsville visible. I sighed and closed the curtain. I needed to have a look at the Crinkies Chocolate Factory too so I could have a clearer idea about how to enter it.
I stood near the window for a few minutes before deciding to step out of the room. I tried to shut the door softly. The door next to my room opened, I panicked and took a step back.
A maid stepped out of the room with a friendly smile. I smiled back at her.
" How can I help you, madam? " she asked.
" Umm... I am hungry, can I get something to eat? "
" Sure, madam. Right away! "
" Thank you, " I said.
" What would you like to have? " she asked.
" Anything would be fine... "
" Okay, " she said and started walking towards the stairs.
I heard her footsteps while she went downstairs. As soon as they ended, I rushed towards the left-most room and opened the door slightly and peeked in. It was empty. I stepped inside the room and shut the door softly behind me.
I went towards the window and slid the curtains. I could view the chocolate factory's side. There were two doors. A man dressed in a blue uniform with a pile of papers walked towards one of them and opened and went inside. I slid the curtain close. I walked out of the room carefully. I rushed back to my room and sat on the bed. I stared at the map for a while.
Soon there were two consecutive knocks on the door.
"Come in," I said.
The maid appeared with a tray of food and placed it on the table next to the bed. It consisted of pasta, a cheese sandwich and a glass of orange juice. I picked up the juice glass and took a sip. I thanked the maid.
" Do you need anything else, ma'am? "
"No, thank you," I smiled.
"Do you mind if I tidy up the room a bit while you eat?"
"Yeah, go ahead..."
I ate while the maid carried on with her work. I wondered how I would enter the factory. I decided it would be better if I waited for it to get dark so the workers would leave the factory. It would make my work a bit easier.
Soon the maid was done with her work and left. I got up and locked the door from inside. I sat for a while looking at the map, as I mentally planned everything. I knew the risk that I was undertaking. If I got caught, it would create a major conflict between me and Alex. 'And... if any of it was true...', I shuddered at the thought of it.
I found myself questioning, 'Was all this really worth it? Am I doubting my boyfriend and his family as well as a business my late father was a part of just because a guy I met a few days ago or a random biker told me so?'
I pondered over it for a while. It was important to know the truth. If I didn't try to know, I'll forever regret it nor will I ever be able to trust Alex fully as well as remain clueless about my father's involvement in it.
It wasn't until past dusk when I forced myself to get up and do what I was supposed to do. I looked out of the window with the view of the factory worker's houses. I was luckily on the first floor, it wouldn't be too dangerous of me to get out from here. It would be foolish to get out of the main door.
I opened the closet and started removing clothes one by one. After I had removed almost all of them. I sat down on the floor and started tying them firmly to one another. It was tedious to tie so many of them but there was no way I could get my hands on a rope or something like that. I had no other option.
After spending more than half an hour it was ready! I tied one end of the cloth rope to the leg of the table next to the window which was attached to the wall. I looked down from the window to make sure nobody was around. It was quiet outside. I took a deep breath, 'It is just the first floor...'
I tied the cloth rope firmly around my waist. I carefully climbed over the window and placed my right foot on a spot on the drain pipe that was next to it. It made up for a decent foothold. I slowly placed my other foot too on the same spot even though there wasn't sufficient space to for my feet. I held the pipe as firmly as I could and started to slowly slide down.
