I woke up when a beam of sunlight fell on my face. I tried to stretch myself a bit. My body was aching terribly. Curling myself under the blanket, I let out a soft sigh and closed my eyes again. Just as I was about to fall asleep, realization struck me. I quickly removed the blanket off me and scanned my surroundings.
For instance, I thought I was sleeping at Huntsville and everything that happened was just a dream or should I say a nightmare? I looked around. It was a plush room with blue and white walls. 'Where am I?'
I got up from the bed. I walked towards the door and opened it. There were three other doors in the corridor as well as stairs going downwards. I anxiously started moving towards the stairs.
"Is anyone here?" I ask hesitantly.
There was silence for a moment and then I heard, " Angelina, come downstairs! "
I stiffened. It sounded like an order from an all too familiar voice. I went downstairs slowly taking one step at a time.
Cole gave me an icy glare as I walked down the stairs and towards him. It made me shiver. I stopped at a distance from him. He stood there in silence.
"H-How did I get here?" I said breaking the icy, silent atmosphere.
"Why were you sleeping on a bench on the road in the middle of the night?" Cole spoke slowly and sternly one word at a time.
"I... I was walking and I was tired, so... I decided to rest for some time and I fell asleep."
"Are you roofless? How can you decide to rest on a bench at night like a vagrant!" Cole fumed.
"I actually am roofless right now with those termites crawling around in my house."
"You-you could have called me... I mean you could have called Jessica and have stayed over at her place! And what happened about you staying over at Huntsville?"
I shuddered at the mention of Huntsville. Alex must probably be out already looking for me.
"I asked you something!" fumed Cole.
Theodore came running towards Cole and started jumping on him to greet him. Cole petted his head. Theodore looked at me and wagged his tail. I bent and rubbed his ears.
"Theodore, go!" Cole ordered.
The poor dog whined and walked away.
"You better answer me," said Cole taking a step towards me.
"I ran away..."
"Ran away?"
"As I had told you, I needed to find the truth. So, I managed to get into the factory after stealing a worker's uniform but they caught me so I ran and I hid in a truck,"
Cole stood wide-eyed listening to me with his fists clenched.
" The truck drove for a long time and when it stopped I escaped from it too but the drivers saw me and they chased me until I came across Xavier. He helped me and took me to Mike's place but when I told him the truth. He feared his safety and asked me to leave... "
Cole grabbed me by my shoulder harshly and pushed me back. My back hit the refrigerator making me wince.
"Do you understand what have you put yourself into?"
"How dare you push me?" I fumed and punched Cole on his face.
Cole looked at me startled for a moment.
"You..." Cole berated.
"What!" I screamed.
"Don't dare raise your voice at me after you have so skillfully managed to cut your own throat!"
"Yes I might have but how does it matter to you?"
"No...It doesn't."
"Good" I gave him a sarcastic smile.
"Maybe you should just leave...," said Cole and clenched his teeth.
I put my hands on his stomach to shove him but instead heat ran all the way through my body as I realized he didn't have a shirt on. Holy Moley... How didn't I notice this before! It was hard to resist myself from running my hands over those sculpted abs.
Cole cleared his throat. My stomach did a back flip and I quickly shoved him harshly.
"I am leaving right away!"
Cole held my wrist softly as I was about to walk past him. I froze.
"Angel..." he said softly and before I knew, he caged me against the refrigerator.
I looked at him in shock. His hazel eyes held a look which I couldn't decipher. He looked at me with warmth yet I could see a hint of rage in them. He nudged my chin up with his thumb. The closeness sent warm ripples of shock through my body.
I stood there under his gaze as if I were under a spell. His eyes moved toward my lips. With a fierce hold, he cupped the back of my neck and pulled me closer. I let out a soft gasp as his lips touched mine. He kissed me deeply and gently. No power on the pull I was suddenly feeling, I cupped the sides of his face and kissed him back with equal desperation. He let out a raspy groan and kissed me harder until the doorbell rang.
In a jiffy, Cole was out of my view. I stood against the refrigerator, trying to breathe normally. What did just happen? Before I had normalized, I heard Jessica's voice.
I rushed towards the door. She ran towards me and hugged me tightly.
"Where were you? Oh, God... I am so glad you are okay. I was so scared. I... I thought you are in trouble! Alex was at my place an hour back, he was looking for you."
Alex's name gave me goosebumps. What would happen if he finds me?
Jessica took a step back and looked at me.
"Is everything okay?"
"No," I whispered.
Cole closed the door shut and lead Jessica into the living room. We sat on the couch.
"I am calling Ethan," Cole said as he picked his cell phone.
I narrated Jessica everything while Cole talked to Ethan. I had tears threatening to spill down my cheeks by the end of it.
"I warned you! Both of us did!" Jessica said angrily.
"I'm sorry,"
She took me into a warm embrace.
"I'm just glad you're okay," she whispered.
