Everything is at a standstill. It's obvious something bad happened. Evan's eyes are on the road and he doesn't say much. I'm okay with that, I need time to let this sink in.
I can't believe it. But I know what happened is true.
But all I am thinking is how Evan can't be human. His touch isn't human. I don't know how to describe it.
He brought a ferris wheel to its knees. Normal people don't do those things. I open the windows so the air can hit me in the face and snap me back to reality.
We stop on the side of the road. It's dark and I cannot figure out where we are. He climbs out of the truck and I follow after him.
"What are you doing?" I ask, I miss my step and almost face plant.
"I figured since we aren't getting far driving we can sit here until the roads clear." He looks out at the water. "Are you okay?"
"I don't feel okay. I just, I don't know what to feel."
"Okay." His lips press together forming a soft line.
"Don't ever think I am upset with you. It's a lot to take in." I hope he understands.
"I know."
"I'm just an ordinary girl. I have so much going on inside of my head."
"You can ask me anything you want, especially now," he says, and he sits down right there on the ground, pressing his back against his truck tire.
"Your touch, it's nothing I ever felt before," I tell him, hoping he can shine a little light on the whole damn thing.
"When I have to take someone, I can manipulate just about anything. It wouldn't hurt you though." He pulls me closer.
I study his hands; they don't look any different than mine.
"You know what? I don't care that you had to do that. I still am hopelessly into you." I rest my head on his shoulder.
"I was worried you would think I'm a monster." He laughs but I know he is being serious. And it makes me sad he would ever think that about himself.
"I would never think that."
"I don't know, there may come a time when you do," he says softly.
Cars move slow, horns honk. Even when you die the world still keeps right on going.
"Dying is part of life. Right?" I ask him.
"Yeah, so I've been told."
"Just more of a reason why I would never blame you for doing what is right." I press my lips against his, and run my hand up his arms.
We break apart after a horn honks and kills the moment. "Let's get out of here, you're probably tired," he says, going to his truck.
"Yeah, I guess." I am a bit tired after such an ordeal.

There is still no sign of Kenny. And Evan doesn't know what to do. I want to see what people are saying, so I turn the television on and settle into the couch.
"Today at the annual Cedar Pine Festival things are anything but festive. Mayor Ridley was crushed in a freak accident. Around four o'clock when crew members were running the Ferris wheel it collapsed. No one is certain how this happened all rides at Cedar Pines are serviced every couple of days. Mayor Ridley was the well-respected Mayor of Cedar and he will be missed," the news lady announces.
