"There was a lot more to magic, Harry quickly found out, than waving your wand and saying a few funny words."
(Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, page 133)
Amy walked with her friends Jack Harkness and Rose Tyler back to the Gryffindor common room after the feast was over. She felt bad that she didn't get a chance to say goodnight to Rory and the Doctor, but that feeling was fleeting as she and her friends jumped into the chairs by the fire. A few seventh years glared at them for taking the best seats but they really couldn't care less.
"So, sixth year, huh?" asked Jack, smirking a bit. His American accent didn't seem as out of place as it used to, now that more and more Americans had been moving to England for the magical education. "Got any plans?" He put his feet up on the armrest facing Rose and laid his head opposite so he was looking up at Amy.
"Not really," Amy responded, shrugging her shoulders lightly. She hadn't thought much about it to be honest; the Doctor was usually the one who coordinated all of their misadventures. Well, not so much coordinated as "planned but ended out happening totally wrong." But those were more fun anyway. "'Get into more trouble than last year' is pretty much a given, so nothing stands out." She laughed and Rose grinned.
"Well with you out of the way I guess I have a chance at Head Girl next year!" she said triumphantly, tilting her chin up. Both Amy and Jack burst out laughing at that. "What?" She looked at the pair with a mixture of annoyance and confusion. "I've got a fair chance; I was prefect last year and I'm pretty well-behaved for a stereotypical Gryffindor girl." Amy had to admit that was true, lately very few of the Gryffindors had a penchant for following rules. Who had time for that in Gryffindor anyway? "How about you, Jack?"
The boy grinned wolfishly. "Let's just say I'm taking advantage of the fact that I'm only not allowed in the girl's dormitories." He waggled his eyebrows. "Guys' dorms are 100% available. Here's to hoping their residents are too." Jack winked and the two girls rolled their eyes, smiling. "Hey, starting next year it's all NEWTs and our careers. Why not enjoy this one while we can?"
"You seem to have your heart set on only one way of enjoying," Rose said, nudging his shoulder.
"Well, both ways actually, but one is more readily available," he interrupted.
"Shut up! I was saying, the three of us should do something big. Like, Amy and her friends on steroids big." Amy and Jack's interests were immediately piqued.
"Sounds great in theory, but what did you have in mind?" Amy asked. She wasn't quite sure if she liked the sound of that, since considering some of the antics she, Rory, and the Doctor had gotten up to could get pretty bad pretty quick.
"Yeah, what's this big plan of yours?" Jack added. Rose shrugged.
"Nothing yet. I'll figure it out."
"Can't be too big, or Mrs. Future Head Girl might have her chances put in jeopardy," the Scottish girl teased. "You willing to give that up?"
The blonde blushed. "We'll see. If it's worth it."
Amy and Jack collapsed into groans. "Well there goes that plan," Jack said. "You're gonna chicken out at the last minute, aren't you?"
"Am not!" Rose glared at him and huffed indignantly, which sent the other two into fits of laughter instead.
"That face!" Amy choked. "That'll fit you perfect with your new position, no one will dare mess with your rules!" Jack guffawed and grinned at Rose.
"Wow, yeah, you sure you're a sixth year and not, I don't know, a new professor sent to spy on us to make sure we don't do anything naughty?" His grin turned wicked. "Terrible job, absolutely terrible."
