“So you’re seriously a princess?” Megan asked looking just as bewildered as when we started the conversation.
“Yeah, I guess so,” I said.
“That’s so cool, my future sister-in-law- a princess.”
“When does your flight leave, sweetie?” Sally asked me trying not to sound sad.
“December nineteenth,” Drew answered for me. He and I both knew that we only had a little over four weeks left before I flew to Aristole with my uncle.
I told Drew about everything that happened when my parents told me the truth of my “adoption” four days ago. He was very understanding, and held me as I talked. He just listened, and as always he said that we’d work through this; he said that no distance could ever keep us apart. He was upset that I didn’t tell him sooner. I found out about the whole fiasco almost a week ago. I told him I wanted to tell him, but he had been working everyday, I had to quit my job, and I’d been preparing for the journey to meet my biological parents. My aunt and uncle told Jake about the adoption, but they left out the part about kidnapping me, and they turned it into a childish version. He was upset, but not too bad.
“Well, then I suggest we do an early Christmas here. Turn it into a sort of going away party,” Sally suggested. “Drew you could invite your father and what’s-her-name, Kriss you can invite your friends, and your dad- err- uncle and aunt. Your adoptive family.”
“I don’t know I’m not much of the partying type,” I said.
“Come on, babe, it’ll be fun,” Drew said pulling me closer to him on the couch.
“Chase and I can arrange everything, you just relax, oh, and shop, we’ll go shopping so that you can look totally, like, amazing for when you meet the king and queen,” Megan said optimistically.
“She’d look amazing in anything,” Drew argued.
“I know, but she’s a princess now, she has to look the part, think about it. She’s famous, her face has been all over the news, newspapers, magazines, and every type of social media ever invented for the past couple of days.”
Drew stood up, and I went to follow suit, but he shot me a look that said he needed to be alone, so I remained seated as Drew walked down the hallway, and slammed his bedroom door.
“Megan, Kriss is the same little girl we’ve always known. She’s no different than she was a month ago,” Chase explained to his wife softly.
“I know- but- never mind, none of you would get it anyways,” Megan stormed out of the room much like Chase did, and just like me Chase remained paralyzed.
“Oh, I suppose this is the part where I go comfort my children,” Sally said still not moving from her chair.
“I got Drew, you get Megan,” Chase said standing, and walking to Drew’s room. Sally followed suit, only she went to her daughter’s room, not her son’s.
In the last couple of weeks I’d learned a lot about Aristole from my uncle. Aristole is a small Island a few hundred miles off the coast of Europe, and has never been involved in any major wars, so it’s not a well-known country. The population is only about 243,897 people not counting the royal family. My mother’s name was Katherine, and she was a Princess from Whales, I had an older brother named Dakota who is thirteen months older than I am. The colors of Aristole are emerald green and gold. Every other Saturday morning the royal family all met with the people of the country when they came to the castle to talk about their families’ needs. The thing that shocked me the most though was that I was to be crowned queen in six months; then I would take over as ruler of the country.
