“Have you seen my phone?” I asked coming out of my bedroom.
“No,” Meghan said staring blankly at the TV.
“I must’ve left it at Carmin’s.” I grabbed the duffle bag full of clothes to stay with my dad and left. When I got to Carmin’s apartment it was starting to rain outside. I knocked on the door and finally Carmin answered.
“I don’t think you should be here right now,” she said shutting the door after she stepped into the hallway with me.
“I think I left my phone here when I came by earlier,” I explained.
“Come back later. Brayton is taking Xavier to his mom’s in about fifteen minutes, come back then and you can look for it.”
I went back to the car and drove down the street to a bar. I went inside and ordered a beer. As always no one even questioned my ID. After finishing my drink I went back to Carmin’s.
She opened the door as soon as I knocked and welcomed me inside.
“You can look wherever you want for your phone,” she said smirking. She was wearing short athletic shorts and a white tank top.
I went to the couch and started digging through the cutions. I looked everywhere for about fifteen minutes and then just sat down on the couch. Carmin was sitting in a chair across from me smiling.
“Do you know where my phone is I asked?” she looked beautiful, but Kriss is prettier.
“Yeah,” she smiled.
“Where is it?”
“In my pocket,” she said patting her side.
She walked over to me slowly, “come and get it,” she challenged kissing me softly.

“You can’t tell her!” a man whispered angrily.
“She needs to know at least then it would make the decision about the fetus easier!” a woman said just as mad. “It would break her heart, don’t you realize that ?”
“Your one to talk about a broken heart, Jonathan. You are here to guard and protect her. That’s it!”
I tried to sit up to get the groggy feeling out of my head. I moaned in pain as I tried to sit up.
“Lay still, Princess,” Fiona said coming to my side.
“What happened?” I mumbled.
“All that matters is that your safe,” Jonathan said standing in his spot by the window.
“Excuse me, Princess,” Fiona said leaving the room.
“What happened?” I asked again becoming a little more aware of my surroundings. I was in my bedroom.
“You were shot in the stomach,”Jonathan explained.
My stomach hurt horribly. My stomach. The baby. My heart dropped.
“Is the baby okay?” I choked out fearing the worst.
“Yes, it’s perfectly fine as far as the doctors can tell,” he said.
“Oh, thank God,” I breathed. “Was anyone else hurt?” I asked.
He sighed and looked around the room before making eye contact with me. “No Aristole citizen was injured,” he said remorosely.
“What do you mean no citizen-” I asked. Immediately I knew what he meant. My uncle was shot.

I opened the door to leave Carmin’s apartment and was bombarded by flashing lights. People holding cameras were everywhere.
I slammed the door and looked at Carmin who was only wearing a tee shirt.
“What was that all about?” I asked.
“I may have told a couple friends who work at the newspaper that you were coming over,” she explained, “and I may have told them you’re engaged to that princess.”
My head was spinning. Kriss would know what happened here by the end of the day if I didn’t put a stop to this, and Carmin stabbed me in the back yet again. Only this time it hurt even worse. I didn’t have Kriss to go run to this time.
“How could you?” I shouted.
“I was just talking to some old friends,” she said.
“No, you knew what you were doing!” I screamed. “You knew exactly what would happen when I came over today! I actually believed that you might’ve changed, but you’re still the same deceitful brat I knew years ago!” I pulled the door open and left leaving Carmin in a puddle of fake tears.
I pushed through the crowd of people all shouting questions at me. I was seeing red and nothing would help but Kriss. I knew just then what I had to do, but first, I would have to make up with my sister.

“You mean to tell me that I was asleep for four weeks?” I asked dumbfounded.
“You were in a light comatose state for that long, Highness,” a doctor explained for the third time.
“Why?”
“Your body was trying to heal itself. With our medical advances we were able to keep you just conscious enough for us not to worry about brain damage, but still in a deep enough slumber that your body could heal on its own. Obviously your body hasn’t healed exactly yet, but you are healing at an incredibly fast rate.”
“Yes, but by then you may find yourself growing tired and some sensitivities to foods. If you feel concerned about anything at all just stop by or have someone summon me for you,” the doctor told me.
“And the fetus, have we come to agreement on that?” Fiona asked once again.
“Yes,” the doctor said. “Under law it is ultimately the mother’s choice on what to do and the mother is not in favor of termination.”
