"Beckett baby, come here." he slid off the couch and stumbled over to me. I put my hand on his warm forehead, "Aw buddy, you're not feeling good eh?" I kissed him, picked him up and tucked him into bed. I went to the medicine cabinet to get the thermometer and some Motrin.
"My tummy hurts." He whimpered, and we made it into the bathroom in the nick of time. He was sobbing after being sick and I sat on the floor of the bathroom until he said he felt okay.
"Does your tummy feel a bit better?" He nodded, took some medicine and climbed into bed. I closed the curtains and let him sleep off whatever his body was fighting. I headed back downstairs to find Easton and Sutton playing a game while Hunter was outside on his phone. I shrugged it off and decided to get dinner started.
"Sorry Jen," he came in and kissed my cheek, "just ironing out some work details."
"No worries. Beck is upstairs, sick." I looked at the time, it was Saturday afternoon and the kids had been back to school for a few weeks. "They may have brought some gross back to school germs home."
"I'm sure he will feel better soon. Do you know if these guys got through their homework?" I shook my head and we dedicated some time after dinner to it. I checked on Beckett and he was slightly warm, but in better spirits than earlier.
"I don't think he should go to soccer tomorrow." I said when Hunter and I finally made it up to bed. "He might feel better in the morning but if he's still warm he will have to stay home." Hunter nodded, reaching for my hand. "What was your phone call about earlier?"
"Just grinding away at work, the usual." He smiled, adding that he would be doing an Opry performance in a few weeks, and that he was hoping to chip away at some writing.
My album, Resurrection from the previous year had been doing great. I released the last single - a duet Hunter and I did written by Taylor Swift. Most of my shows this year had been festivals, and there were no tours lined up for me. "Well, I think it'd be your turn to make some new tunes sweetie. You haven't done a big tour since Sutton was little."
"Are you sure you would be okay with all three kids if I took off?" I nodded.
"I support you. It will be tricky but your parents living out here is amazingly helpful. I don't want you to cut corners or scale things back because you're worried or whatever," I squeezed his hand, "it's your turn." He smiled and cuddled up to me.
"I appreciate your support."
"CMA awards and ACM awards in just a number of weeks." Alexis said, sliding the calendar across the table, "Jenna, I tried to line up Christian but he's away dealing with some personal stuff. Instead, I booked Valentino for you and we have a fitting here." she highlighted my calendar five days before the first award show. I smiled, excited but nervous to have a different designer in my life. "Hunter, Calvin Klein has a suit for you, so we can actually just go to the same studio as Jenna to get you fitted up, same date and time." She scanned her agenda for any other points. "Jenna, I have a request I think you will like." Interested, I let her continue, "Maddie and Tae have a concert coming up and they were hoping you would be around to jump in for a few songs as a special guest."
"Oh that would be fun!" Hunter put his arm around me as I greatly obliged. I had known Maddie and Tae for years and they were so nice.
"Perfect, I'll let them know and I'll send you the details for the soundcheck and show." Alexis wrapped up and I headed to the living room to check on Beckett.
"How you feeling buddy?" He was snuggled up in a blanket on the couch.
"I feel better," I checked his head and his fever seemed to have broken, "I'm hungry."
"I'll make you some soup okay?" He nodded and I kissed his mop of blond hair. Hunter met up with me in the kitchen.
"He feeling better?" I nodded, "Good. I know he was bummed to have missed soccer the other day."
"Yeah, but it's okay." I stirred the soup and set everything on the table, "Beck, come over and eat sweetie." He came into the kitchen, climbed up onto his chair and started eating his lunch. "There's more if you want, Hunt." He smiled and got himself a bowl.
"I'll eat this and I gotta go swing by Sam's house before I get the kids from school."
"Right, there are a couple other toys I came across I want you to take. I'll go get the bin upstairs." Sam and Amy's daughter Hailey was almost a year old, so Hunter and I gathered our gently used toys and clothes for her to have. I set the bin down by the door and went back to the kitchen to find Hunter cleaning up Beckett's lunch.
"Beckett honey, how about we go have a bath and get you in some clean jammies?" He nodded, Hunter kissed us both before heading out. I got Beckett bathed and we cuddled up in front of the tv together until Sutton and Easton bounded in from school. We had dinner and Beckett cuddled up with me while Sutton and Easton splashed in the pool. Hunter sipped a drink while I had some wine.
"How's everything going with Alex?" He asked, swirling his whiskey.
"Good, they're confident they can get him to walk. He might need an assistive device like a walker, but they're doing the therapy two times a week and Ali is doing home exercises." I sipped my wine, watching my two eldest kids splashing around. "God we are so lucky," I kissed Beckett atop his head as he quietly played on the iPad, "I am supposed to call Ali tomorrow for more info. She is supposed to go consult with an SLP to work on sign language."
"That's so tough." Hunter said, "We are blessed to say the least. Are there other hurdles that Alex may face, medically speaking?"
I nodded, "Seizures." Hunter swallowed hard, nodding. "He's turned two now, so it's likely that seizures can occur. They might be triggered though, like if he gets over heated. They're not random necessarily."
"You are so well versed in all these medical terms and conditions." He took the last sip of his drink.
"My brain is so full of medical knowledge. It just sticks there even though I don't need it anymore." I laughed as I finished my wine. "We best get these guys ready for bed." My watch read 7:30. "Sutton, Easton, we gotta get ready for bed. Put the floaties in the shed please." Hunter took our glasses inside as I carried Beckett. "Buddy, you're getting too big for mommy to carry you." He chuckled and cuddled up closer to me. I kissed his head, set him down and he romped up the stairs behind his brother and sister.
