Remus awoke with a start, he was lying on the ground in what appeared to be a condemned house.
"The shrieking shack," Remus muttered and sniffed the air "oh god mothballs"
Remus stood up and walked out of the bedroom he had fallen asleep in, he stumbled down some stairs and found his way to the underground path that would lead him back to Hogwarts. The tunnel was damp and seemed to glow-wait-it did glow! The mushrooms that grew along the path emitted a light blue light that seemed to just barely illuminate the trail. It reminded him of a book he had packed in his trunks.
It took about half an hour for Remus to find his way back to the base of the whomping willow and another twenty minutes to be guided by Madame Pomfrey  to the infirmary.
"I feel fine" Remus said, his face turning a new shade of green from the over exertion.
"Get in that bed and stay there until I deem you fit to leave!" Madame Pomfrey said, almost pushing Remus into the hospital bed, "don't make me tie you down"
"I heard she's done that before" a voice said as Madame Pomfrey stalked off to help some other poor student who got sick on their first day, "Who are you, by the way, I didn't see you at the welcome feast!"
Remus rolled over and saw the boy next to him, he had silky black hair and dark brown, chocolate eyes. It was the boy from Gringotts!
"I'm Remus Lupin!" Remus said, excited to finally be able to talk to someone his age "I wasn't at the welcome feast because, um" he struggled to remember the excuse his father had told him to use "my sick was mother-I mean my mother was sick and I needed to help take care of her!"
"Oh, that's nice" The boy said, seeming to be a bit confused as to why the words ''mother' and "take care of' were in the same sentence, "I'm Sirius!"
"It's nice to meet you Sirius... uh" Remus stuttered.
"My last name isn't important!" Sirius snapped "Sorry, just call me Sirius"
Remus smiled at his new acquaintance, ignoring the minor red flag, "Well it's nice to meet you!"
"You too!" Sirius said "now onto more serious business," Remus giggled, "oh, stuff it! Okay, onto more pressing matters... what are you in for?"
"Well I'm a wizard but I think every-"
"No you moron!" Sirius laughed "why are you in the hospital wing"
"Oh," Remus said, trying to think of a good excuse, "well, uh, I kinda just, um, fell down the stairs to the great hall"
"Really?"
"Yeah they were just checking me for a concussion"
"Cool, I'm in here cause my mate James said I couldn't drink a goblet of olive oil-"
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Yeah! I proved the bloody idiot wrong!" Sirius said, a proud expression on his face "and then I threw up on our prefect-speaking of prefects, what house are you in?"
"Gryffindor,"
"Cool! Me too! All of my family has been in Slytherin so my mums a bit, well, extremely livid, but who cares! I'll only be seeing her a few months a year!"
"Oh, fun" Remus said, taking in the fact that this was probably one of his roommates.
"Oh you're gonna love gryffindor!" Sirius continued "the only kid I've met so far that I haven liked was this girl named Lily, a bit of a goody two shoes, and best friends with this weird greasy kid who basically became James' nemesis in under five minutes-oh did I tell you about James? He's a riot! During the welcome feast he-"
Remus sighed and smiled, Sirius sure loved to talk but it was much better than the odd silence at home.
