Amy rummaged through her kitchen cabinets looking for something to cook for dinner. As she scanned over the cans of vegetables and boxes of pasta noodles she realize she didn't have a very good selection of meals. Feeling frustrated she released a sigh and placed her head in her hands.
"Shadow," she called to the ebony hedgehog whom was sitting on the couch, staring at the black screen of the television. "Would you be so kind as to go to the grocery store for me? I don't have much to make for dinner."
Shadow walked into the kitchen, his hands stuffed into the pockets of the jeans Amy had given him. "What would you like me to get?" He asked just as Amy began scribbling rapidly on a piece of paper. She handed him the list she had made and smiled. She explained to that all she needed him to get was on the paper and gave him enough money to buy the items requested. Amy rushed into her room and brought out a pair of nice black sneakers, she apologized for not having socks for him to wear and for the shoes possibly being too small. Shadow sat down on the couch as he slid the shoes onto his bare feet. The feeling was incredibly uncomfortable and the shoes did indeed feel a bit snug, however he didn't protest wearing them. Amy also apologized for not having a coat or jacket for him to wear causing a him to give her a blank expression. He had wandered around for years upon years wearing only tattered pants, the cold was something he wasn't phased by.
"Thank you for doing this for me, I appreciate it." she smiled as she closed the door behind him. She plopped down on her couch and turned on tv. About ten minutes went by before Amy abruptly stood up and ran to the door. "How the hell is he supposed to know how to get there?" she scolded herself as she rushed to put on her coat and boots. She swung open the door only to be face to face once again with a certain blue male. A feeling of concern washed over her as she stared at his bloodshot eyes and flushed face.
"Sonic, what's wrong? Are you alright?" She placed her hands on either side of his face, her eyes darting all over him as she attempted to look for injuries or anything to explain Sonic's expression. He grabbed her hands and held them in his own. He let out a shaking breathe and closed his eyes. "What happened?" She asked quietly. He forced himself to smile, hoping to give some sort of reassurance.
"Hello to you too." He chuckled. Amy pursed her lips. "I'm fine. I'm just trying to wrap my head around something, but that's not what I'm here to talk about."
Amy looked at him in confusion. "What do you want to talk about?"
He let out a nervous laugh. Was he really going to do this? Yes. Yes, he was. "Amy," he ran his thumbs across her knuckles as he held her hands. "I like you, and not just as a good friend or nice person. I like you like you. And I have for a really long time. I don't know what you've got going on with that Shade guy, or whatever his name is, but I think you and I should try to become something more than friends. So would you like to go on a date with me instead of getting coffee as friends?" Sonic's heart was pounding and he felt sweat beginning to form on the back of his neck.
Amy stood dumbfounded and wide-eyed. She could hear her heart beating in her ears. Her brain was doing laps around her thoughts, attempting to get them in order. Her lips parted to speak but no words would fall out. Instead, she merely stuttered.
"I-I-I," her mouth refused to form words. "When... I don't... What?" A heated blush burned her cheeks as Sonic stared at her.
"I want to be with you, Amy." He smiled.
Finally her lips began to speak sentences. "Sonic, I've liked you for so long." She giggled nervously.
"Than will you go on a date with me?" Sonic cheesed widely. He felt like a little kid.
Amy laughed. "Yes." Sonic wrapped his arms around her and excitedly twirled her around. She laughed as she felt herself spinning. After a moment he lowered her and her feet touched the carpeted floor of the hallway.
"Would you like to go to dinner with me tomorrow night?" He asked, his happiness evident.
Amy's face dropped and the sudden realization of Shadow and the grocery store fell over her. "Oh my god, dinner." She pinched the bridge of her nose. "I'm sorry, Sonic, I have to go! I'll give you an answer before tomorrow though, I promise!" She grabbed the handle of her door and slammed it shut as she ran down the hallway to the elevator, leaving Sonic behind her, confused and alone.
