She was just about to take a drink of her water when I saw the gun man at the other side at the room take aim at her.

Without even hesitating I dove over the table and I watched as her eyes widened as I tackled her just as the gun went off.

I grunted as something hit my shoulder and then I felt my arm flare up with pain.

The people in the resturant were going crazy as everyone tried to get away.

I was still on top of Avery who I could feel shaking beneath me but my eyes tracked the gunman as he fled the scene.

As soon as he was out of sight, I stood up and pulled Avery up with me. Sirens could be heard off in the distance getting closer as I moved the two of us off to the side of the room.

"Are you ok?" I asked her. She was still trembling and looked as if she was in shock.

With one hand I pulled her closer and her shaking hands gripped the back of my shirt. Her hand pulled on a certain spot and a gasp escaped me before I could stop it.

She stepped back away from me and spun me around and sucked in a sharp breath.

"You're bleeding!!" She nearly screamed but I turned around and shushed her.

"It's okay, I'm fine." I told her and hugged her again just as the police came pouring into the resturant.

One particular officer searched the crowd and as soon as he spotted me he came charging towards me.

"Mason Castellanos, I should have known." He grumbled.

"Hello officer Griffin." I said politley and he snorted.

"You want to tell me what happened here?" He asked and I shrugged my shoulders and tried to hide my wince of pain.

"Of course you don't know anything." He said bitterly.

"Excuse me officer?" Avery said stepping out from behind me.

Grifffin looked over at her before raising an eyebrow at me.

"What can I do for you miss?" He asked her gently and I almost snorted.

"She needs to go to the hospital." She said and he frowned. Once again she spun me around and showed him my back.

"God damnit Castellanos, why didn't you say something." He hissed and spoke into his radio. A few seconds later two Emt's came inside and ran over to me.

In the end they ended up taking me to the hospital and Avery rode along with me. I wasn't letting her out of my sight.

The doctor's wanted to perform surgery but I refused and told them to just take the damn bullet out. A few med students wanted to sit in and watch and I didn't have a problem with it so they got to watch as the doctor took a pair of tweezers and stuck it in my wound.

When he got the bullet he started to pull it out slowly until I yelled at him to just pull the fucking thing out and that's exactly what he did.

He cleaned out the wound and I had to grit my teeth from the pain. He stitched me up and put on a bandage before I was fit to leave.

Avery had stayed by my side the entire time, holding my hand and just being perfect. I was worried about what she would say about all of this and how she would react.

We took a cab to her house in silence and I was in a panic about what to say.

I walked her to her front door while the cabbie waited. The lights were still on in her house so I knew her parents were still awake. We were only half an hour late so it shouldn't be too bad.

"I'm sorry about tonight." I finally blurted and Avery raised an eyebrow at me.

"Why would you be sorry?" She asked and I ducked my head.

I looked out over across the street and saw the signature black van parked and waiting.

"I'm just sorry." I finally said.

"Does this kind of thing happen to you often?" She asked and I barely nodded my head.

"I see." She said and I prepared for the worst, so you can imagine how shocked I was when I felt her hand on my cheek and felt her lips on mine.

I snapped out of my shock and kissed her back. Kissing her was everything and nothing like I thought it would be.

Her lips were so soft and I had to fight myself from taking more and I just enjoyed the feel of her lips against mine.

That is until the porch light started flickering. She pulled away from me giggling and I smiled at the beautiful flush on her cheeks.

"I'll see you tomorrow." She whispered before slipping inside. I waited until she closed the door before I went back to the cab with a smile on my face.

The cab pulled of and drove back towards the resturant so I could get my car.

Tonight someone was going to pay for the bullet I took and for shooting at Avery.

I had a pretty good idea who was going to be dying tonight.
