My body flowed through the water and I released everything. I tried to cut out the world around me and just moved through the water.
I had a meeting tonight with a new "gang leader" who wanted to come into the territory. There were many things that could go wrong with these simple dealings but everything should be controllable tonight
Yesterday I had spent the rest of day with Avery and her parents. They were good people but I had a feeling that Avery's dad knew about me.
I had found out they had moved here because of a job offer for him to be the new manager of a local company.
They were both good people and I was happy that they had decided to give me a chance.
A whistle blowing broke through my thoughts just as I reached the wall. Hanging on with one hand I took off my goggles and looked up at the Coach as she stood over me and adressed everyone.
"We have a meet next week at Camberlin High, I'm going to need you all to come in this weekend for extra practice just to make sure you're ready." She said and turned and left.
That was Coach Sands. She never said more than was necessary.
****************
"You ready?" I asked Avery as I picked up our bags off the floor, she nodded and we made our way out of the locker room door and out the school.
"Hey Mason?" Avery asked when we reached my car.
"Yeah?"
"Have you ever noticed the black van that follows you, I've even seen it near my house when you come." She said and I smiled.
"Yeah, I've noticed them. They aren't important, just pests." I said and she looked at me confused at my words as she got in the car.
I drove us to her house and walked her to the door. Only her mother was home so I greeted her before I kissed Avery and left with a promise to pick her up tomorrow.
Driving home, I took a quick shower after checking in with Martha and dressed in my black suit with a red shirt and tie before heading out and meeting up with Anthony
"Here." Anthony said handing me a file as soon as I got out of my car and into his as he drove us to the meeting place.
"Caden Drimel." I said outloud as I read over the file.
Twenty six years old. Father of four year old William Drimel. Two hundred six members in his group. Weapons dealer, Drugs and Company man.
Reading through the rest of the file I closed it and placed it in the glove compartment and leaned back.
"Are all the exits secured?" I asked Anthony as he turned down a corner.
"Everything's in place boss, we've got two on every exit. Four on their hideout and two in the room with you." He said bringing the car to a stop in the back of a building.
We got out and I buttoned one of my suit buttons and followed Anthony into the building past two of my guys and up a flight of stairs where Drimel was already waiting.
The three other guys the room with him moved forward as soon as we walked into the room.
My two guys tensed watching them but Drimel signaled for his guys to stand down as he watched me move closer with Anthony at my side.
"Castellanos." Drimel said and held out his hand which I shook and sat down at the table unbuttoning my jacket.
Anthony handed me the papers that needed signing and I pushed them towards Drimel to sign but he just placed his hand over them and looked at me.
"I know what the papers say but I wanted to wait until I saw you face to face before we signed so we could speak." He said and I narrowed my eyes not liking the change in plans.
"Speak then." I told him.
"A merge." He said and I raised my.eyebrows.
"Between my group and yours."He said and I shook my head. It's not uncommon for different groups to combine but from when my father ran the gang he never merged with another group, yes we have allies but we always kept them seperate. This was the way he always did it and this was one of the things that I wasn't about to change.
This isn't the first time I've been approach with the idea of a merge and I'm sure it won't be the last and like always I will turn it down.
"Sorry Drimel, but I won't be merging with another group anytime soon." I told him and pointed at the papers under his hands.
"You won't even take the time to think about it?"
"I've already thought about it and turned it down, now sign the papers so we can leave, or I can leave and you do your business elsewhere." I told him and he clenched his jaw.
Moving his hands from the papers he signed them and pushed them back over to me and I passed them off to Anthony.
"Nice doing business with you."I said and stood up to leave when Drimel spoke.
"You really are as cold as they say." He said and I turned and smiled at him.
"No, I'm not." I said and he frowned as I let my eyes go empty.
"I'm worse."
