Chapter 11

Izumo pov

It has been a couple days since Christmas. Shizuka somehow managed to finish Eragon, and was now working on White Fang. Totsuka managed to put that cookbook to use, even though it was hers. He also never took that jacket off either. None of us took off our presents from Shizuka.
However, lately I have noticed that Shizuka has been spacing put a bit. Even Mikoto noticed it. Totsuka asked once but she just shook her head. Currently she was sitting next to Mikoto who was, of course, using her as a pillow. She was spacing out again.
"Ne, Shizu-chan, what's bothering you?" Totsuka asked. She looked at him in confusion first, but realized what he meant.
"I have been thinking."
" About~?" Totsuka asked. It was silent again, even Mikoto was now listening.
"What is family?" Shizuka asked. Her head cocked slightly to the side. Rikio stopped midway from getting up, Totsuka and Mikoto eyes widened a bit, I nearly dropped the glass in my hand.
"Um, well it is," Totsuka was having a hard time answering.
"It's when there is a mom, a dad, and child." I answered as best as I could.
"But, Totsuka said that we were family. No ones the father, mother, or child." Shizuka answered.
"That's what a 'normal' family has. We are not a normal family. However know what makes us a family? " Totsuka said smiling. Shizuka shook her head.
"They care for each other. We care for you, and you care for us. That is what makes a family." Shizuka had of bewilderment. Totsuka chuckled,"Don't worry. You'll understand soon." He gave a warm smile.
Shizuka opened her mouth to say something, but the oven beeped.
"Oh, lunch is almost ready." Totsuka rushed to the kitchen. Shizuka had a dejected look. A gave her a smile along with Rikio. Mikoto came up and just patted her head.
I don't know what brought this on, but at least now she has another thing to look forward too.
