16 - Lingering

Anna POV
   I shuffled in my bedsheets, flipped to my sides, and planted my face on my pillow for the 100th time.
   I couldn't get his face out of my head.
   I didn't expect being in love would be so——entrancing.

   With ultimate bed-hair, I got out of my bed at 8.
We're official, I told myself again.
It felt unreal, that one night still felt unreal too. I pinched myself every morning to check if I was living a dream.
But of course it's real, because I pinched myself hard. Just to make sure, y'know.

I plopped my leather jacket on and stuffed my feet into my boots. Another day!

The door of my house swung wide as I stepped out. I stretched my arms out and checked my mail. Nothing.
I mean, I wasn't popular with the letters. Instead, I was the social butterfly, who talked to people in person.
Little did they knew that the outgoing girl and the shy guy would date. Even I couldn't process it.

   As I began walking around greeting villagers, I suddenly recalled an event that was gonna take place.
   The Bug Off's this Saturday..I giggled to myself as I reminisce of the old days. Tom and I would always be fighting over first place.
   I thought of changing things around for this Bug Off though. Can't wait~

   My hands were delicately designing on the model. I chose a dark palette so it would fit our styles.
   I tried to match and plot down the colors onto the cloth. I drew a 'A' and 'J' on the clothes.
   Mabel displayed the pair of shirts up. I smiled at my creation, finding more meaning into it than my other designs.
   She giggled at my idea at first but fully supported it. Sable understood and helped me.
   As soon as I finished, I rushed to look for Joe.

Once I caught a glimpse of his figure from afar, I had a sudden idea.
I slowly crept behind him. He was watering the flowers. The smile on my face kept going up as I grew closer.
He was using the golden watering can, so he spun around to water them. Which increased the difficulty—
But my stealth skills were top notch because I swiftly moved through the garden without sound. Dodging his eyes.

"BOO!"

"eeEekk—-!!"

- SPLASH -

   I opened my eyes after crashing to the ground. My vision was blurry at first but once I gained my senses, my eyes were wide open.
   I was pinning Joe down. I couldn't breathe correctly. Little droplets fell from the tips of my hair onto his face.
   His watering can was knocked over by me accidentally.
"M-my bad.." I wanted to move, but I couldn't. His glistening, brown orbs captivated me.
   We bored into each other's eyes for the longest time I could imagine.
   "A-Anna?" he muttered. Joe was trapped under my arms.
W-why can't I let go?? I internally cursed at myself for being such a mess.
"It's fine." He scooted up awkwardly, but was able to escape. I immediately sat on the ground in defeat.
How are we supposed to be a couple if I still get embarrassed at these things?
He was waiting for an explanation but I couldn't gather myself fast enough.
"Did you need me?" Joe averted his eyes to the flower beds.
   "Um, yeah.." We stood up and I sheepishly gave back his golden watering can.
   "I was gonna tell you good news." He looked me in the eyes as I said it, which made me more..nervous.
I changed into the matching outfit. He tilted his head in curiosity.
"I made matching shirts for the two of us."
Joe looked at my clothes and nodded, so I grabbed him by the hand and took him to the Able Sisters.
