Warning: not gruesome or anything, but sad death

I got up and started going down the hall to the dining room for breakfast, whistling along the way. I couldn't sleep at all yesterday because I was too busy worrying about my worth ahahha.

I walked in to see everyone awake and talking casually among themselves.

"Gooooooood morning!" I said to everyone. I rubbed at my eyes trying to wake myself up.

"You're late." Allura said.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I-I couldn't sleep" I whispered, knowing that they wouldn't care

"I couldn't sleep either! but was I late? No!" Screamed Keith.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I'll be better, what did I miss?"

"We just went over the morning schedule, after breakfast we're training, and you were so late that breakfast is already over, let's go Lance."

"B-But."

"Let's GO LANCE, I'm done with all your messing around!"

I nodded my head and walked with them, too annoyed to eat.

"Why do you guys have to be so harsh? Telling me nicely would work too.." I whispered.

"We have told you nicely! And what do you do? You just shrug it off and make a joke! You think this is a joke! Some of us are trying to save the universe!" Shiro growled.

"I-" I didn't have any words.

"'I-' I WHAT? You finally shut your mouth when we tell you the truth, huh?"

"Why are you guys in such a bad mood today? You guys are over reacting! I'm sorry I'll try not to make any more jokes! I- do you guys need any help with anything? I'll try and make it up to you! I- I'll train harder! Do you want that? Yeah, I'll train and I-" My nervous rambles were cut off by Shiro.

"STOP! Just do what you do best and DON'T DO ANYTHING!" Shiro said, the others seemed to look a little scared of Shiro but walked off with him anyways, leaving me all alone in the hallways. I ran to my room, my ears seemed to ring, my vision got blurry from my tears crawling down my face. I ripped open my bedroom doors. Maybe I shouldn't have snuck out that one night. Maybe I shouldn't have tried to pursue my dreams. Maybe I should've just stayed at home with my step dad who told me that I couldn't do it. Maybe I should've believed him. Maybe I should've let him sell me off, maybe I would've been worth something. Maybe I would've been important. Maybe doing nothing wouldn't have been the thing I was best at. But let's not think about what could've been. Because they can never happen.

Maybe in my next life I can find happiness and self worth. I looked out at the vast space around me. I ran down to the escape pods, next to the training arena. I slammed in the code. It opened and closed.

"10" it counted, the team ran out.
"9", "LANCE WE'LL GET YOU OUT!"
"8" Shiro held back my teammates.
"7" I waved good bye.
"6" they reached out but Shiro pushed them back, his eyes glowed yellow.
"5" I turned my back to them.
"4" I heard the locks breaking.
"3" I'm ready.
"2" "LANCE NO"
"1" the doors burst open and I let myself open the doors of the pod and float, the silence choking me, or maybe that was the lack of air. I saw the team scream. I tried to wave goodbye one more time, but my eyes fluttered close. Darkness.
