She had to leave the only life she had ever known because her father received a job offer. Eighteen-year-old Alexis Winters travels with her father and older brothers to one of the coldest places on earth, Iceland. There, she meets Arthur Curry, a m...
It's been a week since Alexis and her family moved to Djúpavík. The Winters family had settled in without any problems. Bryan and Michael worked with their dad on his fishing boat that had arrived the very same week they moved to the village. The day soon came for Alexis to start her new job at the bar. She woke up at 5 in the morning and started getting ready for the day. "I hope today goes well," Alexis said as she dressed. After she was through, she walked into her brother's room.
"Michael?" Alexis called out, and her brother stirred from his slumber. "What?" He said sleepily, not even bothering to open his eyes. "Can I borrow your truck?" She quietly asked. Wanting to go back to sleep, he turned on his side and sleepily mumbled, "Sure. Now let me sleep, Lexi." Happily leaving the twin's bedroom, she shut the door behind her. She went downstairs and headed to the kitchen to make her breakfast. Alexis makes scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee. 'I'm glad that I woke up early.' She thought to herself as she ate and drank her coffee.
After breakfast, Alexis walked back upstairs to brush her teeth and grab her wallet. Once she had her purse, she went downstairs, got the keys to Michael's truck, and left. While Alexis was driving to work, she couldn't help but feel a little nervous. 'Okay, Alexis, calm down. It's only the first day.' She gave herself a mental pep talk. When Alexis arrived at the bar, she exited her brother's truck and locked it before entering."I never expected you to be here this early." The owner said.
"I forgot to introduce myself; I'm David." The man politely introduced himself. "Alexis." She said, shaking his hand. Looking closer, Alexis guessed that David was in his 30s. He had short, light brown hair, blue eyes, and a well-kept beard. 'Damn, he must work out a lot.' Alexis tried not to stare at his muscular shirt-clad chest

"If any male customers here get a little handsy, tell me about it, and I'll set them straight," David said seriously. Alexis nods and says, "Thank you, but I can take care of myself." David chuckled and thought, 'It's about time this old place had a little change around here.' To pass the time until the bar officially opened, Alexis asked David if there was anything that she could do to help. "The tables and counter need to be cleaned," David tells her.
Alexis soon set to work on cleaning all of the tables in the old bar. Once they were clean, she cleaned the beer counter. The whole time that Alexis cleaned, David watched her. 'She's willing to help, stubborn, and a hard worker.' He mentally noted before sweeping. 'Why didn't I clean this floor a week ago? It's so dirty.' David sighed as he swept and mopped the floor. By the time they finished cleaning, it was already opening time.
The customers soon started pouring in, and the tables were full. Alexis was carrying beers to all of the men there. So far, everything was going smoothly until one of the men groped Alexis's ass. "Af hverju ertu ekki að koma heim með mér og ég skal sýna þér góðan tíma?" The drunk man spoke in Icelandic. When David saw the man grope Alexis, he went over to the man and angrily said, "Ég mun ekki standa fyrir þig að áreita allir starfsmenn mínum! Fá helvíti út af bar minn!"
David watched as the drunk left his bar before he checked on Alexis. "Are you alright?" He asked. "If you hadn't come over here, I would've broken his wrist," Alexis replied, and David chuckled. "If it happens again, I'll let you get away with it." He says to her. "Come on, boss, we still have very thirsty customers to serve," Alexis said jokingly, and David smiled. They soon got back to work.
{5 hours later}
It was around lunchtime when David told Alexis to take a break. "Are you sure that you don't need any more help?" She asked. "I'm sure. Take a break and eat lunch. The break room is right through that door over there." David said as he pointed her in the direction of the break room. Alexis went to the break room and sat down. Opening her lunch bag, she pulls out a turkey sandwich. 'When will I meet him?' Alexis wondered as she ate her turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich.
Alexis wanted to meet her mate, but at the same time, she didn't want to because she was afraid that he'd either reject her or die an untimely death. Alexis sadly remembers what happened to her dad after her mother died. He barely ate, slept, or came out of his bedroom. Her uncle had to drag him out of his room and knock some sense into him. When her dad saw reason, he wasn't the same again. He still loved his children with all of his heart, but there were days when Allen would feel angry, depressed, and downright moody. Alexis and the twins learned how to handle their dad whenever that happened.
Moodiness wasn't the only thing that her dad suffered from. Ever since her mom died, her father couldn't shift anymore. It was like the pain of losing his mate had broken something inside of him. And even though Allen couldn't shift, Alexis and her brothers knew their dad missed it. That's why Alexis was scared of finding her mate; she didn't want to go through the same pain that her dad was going through. And even if she did meet her mate, Alexis would try to avoid him, but fate, it seems, had other plans.
