"What relation does the patient possess with you, Mr Hummels?" The nurse had asked me once Arabelle was inside the room for a thorough check up. I paused at her words, what was I to her? And then I remembered that she said yes to my indistinct proposal.

"She's my fiancé." The word felt foreign on my tongue but at the same time, delightful. On cue, her eyes went over to my hand, probably checking at the empty ring finger. If she wanted to say something, she didn't- instead told me to wait patiently while they checked her.

My mind raced with a million different things, seeing Ara on my doorstep with only Robert's shirt over her body made me question my question the decision to spend the rest of my life with her but I knew betters. Her daughter was a crying mess, two girls crying on my doorstep wasn't a very nice thing to see, not for me at least.

I banged my head back against the wall and let a sigh escape my mouth. Clara was also holding onto my hand like her dear life depended on it, she was ready to doze off any moment now, her eyes drooping. "Mats," she whispered.

I bent down a little. "Yes Lewandowski junior?"

"I want to go home," I patted her head and kissed her forehead just when she let out a yawn. "For now, you should sleep." And she was already closing her eyes.

"Mr Hummels, you can see your fiancé now," the nurse came. I nodded and carefully removed Clara's hand from mine. "Could you please call someone to watch over her for a couple of minutes? I don't think she'd want to see her mother like that."

Understandingly, she nodded just when I entered the white checkup room. A lady doctor was standing near the stretcher where Ara was sprawled over. She looked weak, fragile and hurt, it pained me to see her like that.

"Mr Hummels, Arabella was lucky to escape such a brutal combat, this is a matter of the police now too." She said and I nodded my head, keeping my eyes on the woman in front of me. "Ara here, was hit on her head multiple times and also has several minor cuts and bruises on her body but I wouldn't want you or her to worry about those. What you should worry about is getting this case to the police now, it was a smart decision to take her here straight here because we've found traces of semen of another man that can help your case as an evidence of rape and sexual assault." The doctor told me, it had worked, my thinking, this was exactly what I had planned.

Robert and this nightmare needed to end.

"But the traces will be gone in three days approximately so I suggest be as fast as you can be. On the other hand, I've prescribed her some painkillers and antibiotics to heal any internal bruise, she'll be fine like before in a couple of days." She looks at Ara and then gestures me to the corner of the room. "The wounds are still fresh, the memories and trauma will only strengthen if she's exposed to such sick things again. I suggest you take complete care of her and don't let her out of sight."

"Thank you, Doctor."

I walk over to Ara once the doctor leaves, pushing her hair strands out of her face. The mere idea of her being hurt again only made me feel guilty, we were engaged now, it was my duty to protect her and yet, I couldn't.

Slowly, she opened her eyes, ridden of all beauty and shine that she had formerly held. "Hi."

She stayed silent, not blinking and only looking at me, her hand clutching onto mine. "How are you feeling?" I asked her in hopes of getting a response but nothing came. "Hey, you're safe now, don't worry." I ran a hand over her arm and saw we shiver.

"I'm okay." She spoke in a small voice. "Where is Clara? Did Robert take her?" Suddenly she was up on her feet and pulling out her IVY tubes from her arm, frantic and distressed. I shook her by the shoulders to make er stop, practically screaming in her face. "Ara, stop! She's outside, asleep. Robert didn't take her, he can not separate you two from each other and I will make sure of that." I calmly told her.

She sat up and breathed, I could hear her breaths. "What am I going to do now?"

"You will drag that bastard into jail." I seethed and grabbed her hand in mine. "We'll be fine, we'll be fine."

"But what about Clara?" She put a two fingers to her lips as if controlling the urge to sob.

"She's going to stay with you and I'll make sure of that, baby." I smiled at her, through all the chaos and mayhem, all that I wanted was her to be happy, was that too much to ask?

"Promise me you won't leave me." She said out of the blue, her eyes almost ready to water. I took her hands in mine and closed the distance between us slowly, pressing my dry lips to her own dry ones.

A kiss to tell her that I wasn't going anywhere, a kiss to tell her that she was all I had and I had ever wanted, a kiss to show her that I loved her.

"I promise."
