"I'm bored," I announced to Loki, looking up at him.
"Then go do something, darling," He said. He removed his arms from around me, allowing me to get up from my place next to him.
"Loki, you're supposed to help me figure out what to do," I complained, and he grinned.
"What? That wasn't in the job description of being your significant other." He shot back, and I laughed.
"Fine, so be it," I said, stalking out of the room playfully, "I'll figure it out on my own." I wandered around the halls for a bit, stopping to visit the other Avengers before I ended up in Loki's room. I wasn't in here very often, so the first thing I noticed was the floor-length mirror that lined his closet doors. Suddenly giddy, I bounded over to them, imagining Loki in front of them every morning, telling himself how great he is.
I giggled, gently pulling open the closet door in front of me. I wasn't surprised by what I saw; it was mostly black suits, black slacks, black everything. What drew my eye was his green cape. The soft material almost glowed against the light flooding in and was practically begging me to put it on. I thought twice about it- as well as I think I know Loki, he always has a way of surprising me, and I didn't know how he'd react to me wearing his clothes.
Oh, well. He told me to go do something, and if he didn't want me to go adventuring he should've been more specific.
I took the cape and brought it out of the closet, admiring it in the mirror for a moment before slipping it over my shoulders. The material settled nicely- it was clearly too big, but if I wore something like this with enough confidence then who could tell me no?
Turning a few times, I smiled as the material swirled up around me. I now understood with complete clarity why Loki enjoyed wearing all of this fabric. If I didn't like jeans so much, I would do it too.
Taking a lap around his room, I wished and swirled his cape. I walked with a newfound grace, head held high and back straight. It wasn't until I got the feeling I was missing something that I stopped walking, and as soon as the thought came to me, I saw it. His golden helmet was mounted on the wall behind me, glimmering with an otherworldly shine. As all of his clothes seemed to do, it was begging me to put it on.
Of course, I obliged.
It was way too big for me, but I found that if I put it on properly, whatever magical properties it had made it fit my head. Pleased, I took another glance at myself in the mirror. I truly looked like a girl version of him (in clothes at least)- I had the cape, the helmet, and I felt like I had the attitude now. I was conveniently wearing all black, so that fit the look even more. Satisfied, I decided to take my new look to the halls of the tower to get the opinions of my friends. I walked with a regal gait toward the door, and I pulled it open feeling giddy. I ran into Bruce on my way down to the kitchen, and he actually did a double-take when he saw me.
"Like the new look?" I asked, grinning. Bruce laughed and said,
"You know, I actually wondered how Loki had managed to change his appearance so much in a few hours. I didn't even notice it was you until I saw you up close." I cheered, turning in a circle to swish the cape some more.
"That was the goal, I'm so glad it worked!-" I began, but then remembered I was supposed to be acting the part of the clothes. I cleared my throat, straightening my posture.
"I mean... Yes. Thank you." I walked on, leaving Bruce behind (but not without shooting him one last smile). The cape swayed behind me as I walked into the kitchen, where Thor and Steve were sat talking.
"Well, Jane..." Thor was saying, at the same time Cap said,
"Peggy was..." But I interrupted them both, saying,
"Gentleman, gentleman, you mustn't argue about whom is better. Clearly, it's me." They both turned to me, surprised, but their mouths dropped open when they saw me. I held my chin up and was standing with better posture than I ever had before. I grinned to show them that I was joking about Peggy and Jane, and they burst into laughter.
"Oh, man, Tony's going to have a riot with this one." Steve said one he had recovered, wiping tears from his eyes.
"What?" I questioned, continuing my joke from earlier. "The truth is the truth- you cannot escape it."
"Wow," Thor commented, studying me closely. "You play the part of Loki as well as Loki does.
"Have you shown him yet?" Cap asked, and I shook my head.
"I'm about to," I said, "I just thought I'd practice my Loki on everyone first.
"Well, you nailed it," Cap promised me, "Now go show him!" Once more, I raised my chin and straightened my back.
"As you were, gentlemen," I said, and with a flick of my arm, the cape flew out behind me as I turned and walked out the door. I left the kitchen to the sounds of laughter, and I had to resist the urge to smile and break character myself. I kept it up all the way into the living room, where Loki was relaxed exactly where I had left him. His eyes were focused on the book in his hand, and he was reclined on the sofa, looking rather beautiful. I stood and admired him for a moment before clearing my throat, making myself known.
"Good evening," I said, stepping further into the room. The gold helmet glinted in the evening sunlight pouring through the window, and it bathed my skin in a natural glow. Loki did a double-take when he put his book down, raising his eyebrows at me.
"Good evening, yourself," He said, a small smile sliding onto his face. His accent was clipped and proper and thicker than usual, always able to make me weak in the knees. "It seems you've found my closet." I didn't reply; instead, I strutted around the room, flicking the cape and flourishing in the light. Loki watched as I paraded around, a small, proud smile sitting on his face.
"Come here, darling," He said after a moment, opening up his arms. Without hesitation, I crossed the room and melted into Loki's side, snuggling against him as he wrapped his arms around me again. My heart melted as he removed the helmet and pressed a kiss to the top of my head.
"I love you dearly, did you know that?" He asked. His chin now rested where he'd left that kiss, and I could feel his voice vibrating as he spoke. I smiled, moving a little closer.
"I did indeed," I replied, "And I love you more than you'll ever know." I could practically hear him smiling.
"I think I have an idea of how much you do," He said, "Seeing as you've dressed as me." I just chuckled, leaning impossibly closer into his side. We lay there in silence for a few minutes, watching the sun rays wane through the window. Despite all my energy earlier, I could feel sleep beginning to take over me as I soaked up all of Loki's warmth, curled into his side.
"Go to sleep, darling," Loki said from above me, "I'll watch over you."
"I love you," I said again, moments away from sleep. Just before I fell into a dream, I felt another kiss pressed to my forehead, and he said quietly,
"And you know I love you, too."
