The door opened revealing Sam's cut up face.
His eyes were sad and Abigail noticed almost on sight.
"What happened? How bad was it?"
Sam looked at her with shimmering hazel eyes that were on the edge of crying.
"Abigail. I'm so, so sorry for everything that I have to tell you right now."
He sat down next to her and took her good hand in his.
"Sammy...what's going on? Where's Dean?"
Abby could feel her heart threatening to leap out of her chest.
Dean must've wanted to wring her neck.
"Dean said a few things that I thought you should know about...He said..."
Sam suddenly lost the ability to say what he was going to say.
He knew how badly it would hurt her to hear what Dean had said.
Sam wanted to protect her heart, not be the one to shatter it.
"He said that Dad was thinking about shoving you with Bobby...That dad said you had one more shot at not screwing up."
Abby's face completely dropped.
Tears stung her eyes again.
"Then I guess this is really it. It's over."
Sam shook his head angrily.
"I won't let it happen, all right? It gonna be fine Abby-"
"Can you please stop saying that it's gonna be fine?! Because, it's not fine, so drop it...Why does he hate me, Sam?"
She was angry at first, livid.
Nevertheless, her voice cracked and a few tears fell down her cheeks.
"Perhaps I was never meant to be a Winchester. Perhaps me going away is best for a while."
His face hardened.
"No. I don't want that."
She smiled at him through the tears.
Putting her hand on his cheek to rub away the tension on his face.
"I know. I don't either. Even so, it makes sense. We might need distance after this mess that I made. And, it's not like we'd never see each other. I'll try to see you on hunts as much as I...as I can-"
Her voice breaks into a sob mid-sentence.
She couldn't lie to herself anymore.
There was nothing else to shine a light on.
Sam pulled her into his chest as he stood up.
He dared to cry with her.
A few tears fell down his cheeks in sorrow of losing his sister.
Maybe forever.
Dean ran into the room to see what was going on, and he panicked when Abby looked at him with her tear-streaked face and bloodshot eyes.
He was the cause of that, or so he thought.
"Dean..."
He took a few steps closer to the bed and fixed his eyes on Sam, who stared him dead and coldly in the face.
His face was hard as a rock but shiny with salty hunter tears.
He had told her, Dean was sure of it.
Now he was more of a fuck up than anyone in the room.
He said things he didn't mean...or maybe he did mean them.
At that point, he didn't really know.
He was just upset.
His car was wrecked and now the two most important people in the world to him couldn't stand to look him in the eyes.
"Wow. You look terrible."
He says with a chuckle.
His hands fisted deep in the pockets of their dad's leather jacket.
"I know...Dean, I-"
"Let me stop you right there. I didn't mean what I said, okay? Before we talk about what's going to go down. I'm sorry any of it came out of my mouth. I was angry, and I took it out on you. I care about you, and I want you here."
Abby purses her lips together, slightly confused.
Sam shut his eyes, not knowing how this would play out.
"That means a lot. But, I don't want you to apologize for the things that dad said. He said some awful shit to me. However, I had no right driving the impala. No matter how mad I was...I'm so sorry, brother."
Tears trickled down the bridge of her nose as she spoke.
Dean finally realized that Sam hadn't told Abigail what he said.
At least, he hadn't yet.
He pulled another chair up to her bed and put his hand on her cheek.
"It's okay, Abby. As far as the living with Bobby thing goes-"
"I'm going to do whatever dad says...I hate the thought of going away, I really do. But, let's face facts. Dad doesn't want me anymore. Maybe he never did. I don't know. I barged into this life like I was offered a spot, and I wasn't."
Her voice cracked heavily, and she could feel her heart breaking.
"I'm not Mary's kid."
The knot in her throat burst causing the words she spoke to hurt as she forced them out.
"I'm not. No matter how much I want to be. I'll never be his real child in his eyes. Mary was the woman whom he loved, and she's the mother to his sons. His real sons. I'm just the accident. Maybe I should start acting like one."
Sam grabbed her hand and squeezed it.
She could see the tears forming in his eyes.
"That's not true. You're wrong, Abby. Dad loves you. If he didn't he'd-"
"Throw me out? Kick me to the curb?"
Sam felt anger in his throat.
He hated that she was right.
Loathed it.
"I love you boys so much. Whatever happens you'll always be with me...just not with me."
Sam let a tear fall before quickly swiping it away and storming out of the room.
Dean watched him go into shock.
He didn't realize how much Sam actually cared about their sister.
"Abby-"
"I'm sure living with Uncle Bobby will be fine. I'll get a job at a diner, help him fix up all those cars, and other stuff-"
Dean stopped her.
"That's not what you want. It's not. I'm may be blind to most things, but I've always known when you're lying. Even when you were little..."
He smiled thinking of those days.
"Uh. You remember when you were like twelve, and you really wanted that unicorn bracelet?"
She stifles a laugh.
"Oh my god, and I wanted it so bad that I-"
"You begged dad for like three days to get you one before we left town again. So, sardonic as he is. He got you a bracelet alright."
Dean smiled and laughed for a moment trying to get back to his sentence.
"He got you that really ugly, brown, twine bracelet. Then he said-"
"H-he said 'Well dammit, Abigail, you said get me a bracelet. It is a bracelet. It might be a little itchy though. You should wash it.' I pretended that I loved it, because it made him happy. I guess you could see right through me, huh?"
His smile falters a bit.
"Always have. I always will...I'm going to check on Sam, okay?"
She nodded and watched him leave.
Dean found Sam back in the waiting room.
Slumped over with his head in is hands.
"Hey...Thank you, Sam. For not telling her."
Sam scoffs and lifted his head revealing a tear-streaked face.
"I didn't do it for you. I just couldn't tell her something that horrible when her own father might ditch her tomorrow. That doesn't mean that I won't tell her, because she deserves to know. But, not here, not today, she needs time...I can't believe she's gonna be gone."
Dean sat down next to him and put his hand on his brothers back.
"Like she said. We'll always be with her. Just not physically with her. We can call and visit whenever the hell we want. Hell, we don't even know if dad will go through with it."
They were both stressing too hard.
"You're right. I'm sure we can convince him to let her stay. Let's go back in there."
Dean nods and follows him back to the room.
When they came in they saw that her tears finally dried.
That she was smiling.
"Hey Abby-girl."
She smiles at them.
"I love you guys."
She says taking Dean's hand and looking up at Sam.
They lean down and hug her tightly.
"We love you too."
Dean says quietly.
Sam whispered near her ear, so that Dean couldn't hear him.
"You're not going anywhere, Abigail. Over my dead body, you understand?"
She nods and kisses his cheek.
She understood him perfectly.
