I was so nervous. Lyra had left me alone with our child. Yes, a father afraid of their child, well it was more than that. I was afraid to end up like my father. I'd never hurt (Name). That's what my daughter's name was, (Name). I'd always liked it and Lyra said it was a good name. She was so cute. She was like a little me in a way. She had my silver eyes and Lyra's brown hair. I was happy she didn't get my red hair. It was a curse.Ever since my father it has been, him and that stupid Team Rocket. Red and I with the rest of the PH members took down Team Rocket when I was twenty years old. We took them down a lot but that time they finally stayed down. After that we were free to do whatever we wanted. I ended up marrying Lyra and had (Name) with her.
I loved (Name) with all my heart but I always fears my father's darkness would come out and I'd be like him. Lyra said I was different. That I had kindness in my heart and would make sure nothing happened to her or (Name). She was right about me being over-protective. When we went to the park I never let my eyes off of her in fear of some kid hurting her, pedophiles, aggressive Pokémon, or anything that could harm her. She never noticed. She always thought Daddy was being silly or something like that.
Right now Lyra was at the store to get supper and I was alone with the small five year old girl. She was watching a children's show, Pikachu's adventures. I used to watch that when I was a kid. Well when I was allowed to. It was the Christmas episode since next week was Christmas. I thought about what I could do with (Name) since the show was going to end soon.
Once it was over I rubbed her arm. "How would you like to help Daddy with something?" I asked.
"Like what Daddy?" she smiled and giggled up at me. She was so cute.
"Making cookies. Mommy likes cookies. Daddy does too. Hmm, am I forgetting anyone?" I asked with a smile.
"Me! Me! I like cookies, Daddy!" She said now standing up and jumping. "Let's make cookies! Cookies!"
I smiled and got up to make them with her. I picked her up and put her on a seat on our island in the kitchen. She was cute and so excited. I got everything to make the dough. "We'll make sugar (For this one can we just say Sugar is your favorite)."
"Can we decorate them too, Daddy? Like Pokémon?" she asked so cute and innocently.
"Yeah. Is there another way?" I asked. I loved this. These moments are why I loved to be a dad.
Once everything was ready we started on the cookies. I loved to watch her. Right now she was making a Pokémon. I couldn't tell what it was yet until she yelled, "Done, Daddy. Guess who it is."
I looked at it. It took me awhile to see it but it was my Weavile. She loved him so much. They were inseparable ever since she was born. "Weavile," I smiled.
She nodded. "Think he'll like it? It might cheer him up," she said.
"Yeah it will," I said. She said cheer up because he was sick today. She smiled and giggled as I carefully put it on the tray with other random Pokémon. I got used to this because Lyra had me make them all the time with her. She'd always make them for Christmas or any holiday actually. Personally I hated Christmas for the longest time because Christmas Eve is my birthday, but then Lyra made it all the better. She made me forget that I hated it and made me love it. (Name) helped forget as well.
"Daddy," (Name) asked. I jumped a little and looked back at her. "You okay?" Her eyes were filled with worry.
I smiled and petted her head. "Yeah, Daddy's fine. Just thinking about next week."
"Next week is your birthday, Daddy," she smiled.
I smiled. "Yeah it is," I said. "but it's also Christmas."
"Daddy, were you born before Christmas?" she asked.
"Yes and no. My dad never celebrated my birthday so I never knew when it was but then Mommy and my friends said it was December 24th because that's when I told them I didn't have one. Mommy picked it," I said being honest but vague.
"Mommy chose it. Did Mommy choose mine too?" She asked.
"No. No. Mommy didn't. You did," he said. "You said you wanted to be born on (Birthday)."
She frowned. "I wish my birthday was with yours, Daddy. I love you," she said.
I held her. "It's okay. How about on Daddy's birthday you open up one of your presents early. That way it's like our birthday together. We can do it every year," I smiled. "Would you like that?" She nodded like crazy. I smiled again. "Good. I like it too."
After that we went back to the living room to watch more Christmas specials as our cookies were baking. I loved this. Everything about it. It was just so perfect. I never wanted out of this moment. Me and my baby girl. I loved her so much. She'd grow up and leave me.
I held her closer. "Daddy," she giggled and petted my head a little.
"Stay like this . . . for awhile longer okay?" I asked.
I soon heard the door open and close. Lyra was home now. "Silver?" She asked seeing me hold (Name). "Hey baby why don't you go play," she said and (Name) left to go play with some of her plushies. Lyra put my head in her lap. "Alright, Silvy, what's wrong?"
"(Name)'s growing up and she won't be here that long," I said. I learned I couldn't lie to her if she rubbed my head. She'd hit my cowlick and then tease me more and then it'd get out one way or another with her. She looked nice and sweet but could be next to a demon at some points.
"Silver," she sighed. "She's five. We have he for at least thirteen years."
"Yeah but I don't want these moments to end. I love them so much," I said holding a pillow closer.
"Then leave the past in past and don't worry about the future or it'll fade past you. The present is called that for a reason," she said and kissed my head. The beeper soon went off and I went to get (Name) to decorate them. She was right. I should just enjoy this.
I smiled and put some frosting on her nose. She giggled, "Daddy!"
I licked some off my finger. "Yeah?" I asked smugly. She then did the same to me. We laughed until Lyra came over and we did the same her to her.
"Oh yeah?" Lyra asked. After that it became so white. So much frosting and was a huge mess but was fun. It took over three hours to clean up.
Moments like these are why I loved being a father.
